Chris Long

Around this time last year the Rams nation was going crazy trying to find out who the Rams would take with the 2nd pick of the draft. The conversation predominantly focused on whether it would be Chris Long or the more heavily favored Glenn Dorsey.  Word around had been that Dorsey was higher rated than Long with many of the coaches prefering him including former interm-head coach Jim Haslett. In the end Long supposedly jumped up the draft board the day before the draft. Now whoever was responsible for this whether it be John Shaw or Billy Devaney or even Linehan(doubt it), I believe they made the right choice. The Rams drafted the ultimate safe pick Chris Long.  Long gave us multiple bonuses. Not only was he solid player as a rookie who developed more and more each week. He could easily become (Barring major injuries) a conerstone of the Rams defense for years to come.  With a defensive minded coach like Spags leading the team i forsee Long developing into an end comparable to Patrick Kerney (seahawks) or even better. Granted its only been one season but Longs future looks pretty bright in St. Louis.  Not to mention his dad doesn't trash the Rams anymore on FOX sports.

glad i’m not the only one who voted for the future; even though “yes” was really tempting

"The Rams drafted the ultimate safe pick Chris Long"

With that being said who is this years ultimate safe pick. I would have to say Curry. However the Rams need more help inside rather then OLB. Everything I hear about Curry I love, but can he play inside? A good LB Witherspoon had trouble making the move. I hear draft being talked about for ILB but how much would the team improve by taking Curry? I feel very conflicted. I just hope Ramies can trade down and take the best available.

Not so fast my friend!

Let’s not fool ourselves here. Chris Long was definitely NOT the safest pick of the draft. The safest pick of the draft was by far Jake Long. Jake Long was the premier OT of the draft with amazing size and everyone knows that offensive lineman have the least bust factor of any other NFL position. If you draft a bad OT, you can always move them to guard or to the other side.

But............

Chris Long was already gone. The quote implies “of available players”.

What is the difference between vlad001 and a moron? Only vlad doesn't know the answer.

Better Long than Dorsey

Should have gotten Jake Long

Yes, Jake Long was the ticket...

but Bill Parcells and the Dolphins knew it. And you’re right; at least we didn’t get saddled with Dorsey or Gholston…
