Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Random Ramsdom, 4/1: Camping under the radar

Tomorrow, the Rams kick off their first mini-camp of the year, more importantly, their first mini-camp with head coach Steve Spagnuolo at the helm. With the exception of 20 minutes at the start of the first practice on Thursday, the entire thing is closed to the media and the public for that matter. What do you think about this?

On one thing the team needs to do is make nice with fans again after a few lost years. On the other hand, the team needs to win to do that, and this gives Spagnuolo and the rest of the team a chance to get to know each other a little better. I can see the rationale behind both sides of the issue. What do you think?

The next two mini-camps will be open to the press.

Some linkage:

  • Torry Holt will visit the Titans this week. I'm still putting my money on this one as his next home.
  • The Bears are working hard to get Orlando Pace signed. If they do get him to the Windy City, they reportedly will install him as their left tackle. The Ravens, the other team Pace has visited and maybe negotiated with, would likely use him on the right side.
  • The Rams have a visit scheduled with University of Richmond DE Lawrence Sidbury prior to the draft. Sidbury is a speedy 6'2" 265 lbs pass rusher, the fastest DL at the Combine. Here's a scouting report from Draft Countdown.
  • Finally, something to delight the draft watchers out there. Matt Stafford reportedly left Lions brass very impressed after a "flawless" private workout.

Two thoughts

I’m not entirely sure that shutting out the media equals shutting out the fans. I don’t think that was a parallel you were suggesting, but I think there are better, more direct ways of connecting with (and envigorating) a fan base than talking to a reporter from the Mt. Vernon Register-News.

Jay Zygmunt, now that you have fired yourself, please have yourself hired by Seattle. Thanks.
