MJD [Jacksonville RB Maurice Jones-Drew] calls himself the best RB in football. He thinks he's better than Adrian Peterson, LaDainian Tomlinson and Stephen Jackson. MJD clarifies by saying that all RBs are good and it's tough to compare one to another since the position is so broad, but he thinks he's among the best.
Jones Drew on Dan Patrick's show today. Yes, they spelled Steven Jackson's name wrong, but let the debate being anyway.

He's a good back,
but I don’t know that he’s ever seen Adrian Peterson play. He’s a great runner. Jones-Drew has always impressed me with his big play ability though.
Agree.
He’s tough as nails. I don’t know about the best in the league. Maybe if he were bigger. But, he’s pretty darn good.
I’m just wondering if he actually calls himself MJD or if the person writing that blub did it?
Getting two tickets to an execution is like getting two tickets to NASCAR, except you KNOW Jeff Gordon's gonna die.
MJD
I’m not sure, but I’ve definitely heard it before, so its not the person who wrote it. They’ve used it on sportscenter or during games.
I see.
I rarely watch Sportscenter and that’s probably where it started so I wouldn’t have known about it.

he's a great back
but he’s not the best in the league. he might be a top 5 guy.
i’m just glad he’s doing as good as he is. it’s been fun watching the guy play since he was at UCLA. i’ll always remember some of the performances he put on while he was there.
I'd take
AD
Steven Jackson
Portis
Westbrook
Deangelo Williams
All of those guys over him for sure. Then there’s guys you could debate about like Barber, Gore, Addai, Turner, and Chris Johnson. But there’s no way he’s the best in the league.
No way on Westbrook or Portis
Much more age than MJD, who is just 23. Thinking from a GMs perspective.

Oh yeah
If we’re talking long term then I would definitely take MJD over those guys. But right this very second, they are both better than him.

I don't think the league has a standout back
When Ladanian Tomlinson came back to earth, the playing field leveled. Jones Drew might have an argument right at this moment, but it’s not like he’s Barry freaking Sanders. The league is waiting for the next great one to emerge.

If I had to guess
I’d drop money on either SJ or AP

I was asking taiko
because he said there was no standout back in the league right now. I think Peterson is a standout.

He’s had a couple of good years, for sure. But I haven’t seen him play much, and a couple of good years (with 0 playoff wins) doesn’t separate him from the Larry Johnsons of the world in my mind.

can't knock him for lack of playoff wins
That’s not AP’s fault.

Right.
Gayle Sayers never played in a playoff game and Barry Sanders only played in 4 playoffs games winning only 1 and Jim Brown also went 1 and 4 in the playoffs.
I think we could all agree that all 3 of those guys were really good running backs yet they went a grand total of 2 and 8 in the playoffs.

I've got no problem comparing Peterson to Sayers, Sanders, Brown, et al
… once he’s put in ten years of total freaking dominance in the league.
For now, without having proven himself on the highest stage, and with such a short time in the league, I can’t do it. There are so many other players who were great for a short period of time and qualify for the Hall of Very Good that he could justly be compared to.

FWIW
Jim Brown only played 9 seasons and Gale Sayers only played 7.
Btw, I’m not comparing Peterson to those three guys. I’m just pointing out that playoffs victorys don’t exactly tell the whole story with football players.

You should watch him
He’s amazingly good. And if Tarvaris Jackson wasn’t his QB he would probably have a few playoff wins.

and if
my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle……………MJD is a moron for even saying that
Huh?
What are you talking about? How does that make it Peterson’s fault?
And what was MJD supposed to say?
