Now What???
With cap space nearly gone, is it a forgone conclusion to waive or trade Pace and Holt? With a possible 14 million cleared, by moving these players the Rams FO can create the cap space needed to address team needs.
Still needing a tough inside linebacker, a blocking FB (Weaver being sought), a run stuffer at DT, an additional T for the o line, and a back to help spell Jackson, the FO needs to figure where they can fill the needs. Can we address these needs through in house options, free agency, or draft? The line can be addressed with a big T pick of Eugene Monroe, but Aaron Curry could be the answer at MLB, while there are full backs in the draft Leonard Weaver really is a definitive blocking back, and what about the other issues. In house options on line include John Greco, who looked very solid in his last game against the Falcons, and there is the unkown Roy Schuening who was rated as one of the top interior lineman in last year's draft. One thing remains clear the Rams will need to still utilitze free agency to finish the improvements they want to make. This is all assuming that the Rams will use what is left of the cap to pickup Butler for SS. The one thing that so far has stuck out is the Rams are not nickling and diming what is important they have committed some serious funds already to address the most important needs and are taking pronounced and aggressive steps to solidify key positions, instead of trying to patchwork our team needs.

Not bad
For having joined the community so recently, you wrote a pretty nice FanShot. I’ll say this: if you’re expecting this team to fill every need with an acceptable player, you’re being too demanding. Think about this team, as many of us were, around week 14 or so and this community imagining how we could fix everything. It was daunting and depressing. But with the changes in the front office, a new crew of coaches and a great start to the personnel move section of this offseason, we’re doing what we need to be doing. But doing it all in a single offseason? That would have to rank as one of the most impressive (and ridiculously successful in terms of scope) offseasons of any team in recent history. That’s a lot to ask.
Jay Zygmunt, now that you have fired yourself, please have yourself hired by Seattle. Thanks.
True but...
FA is always a good way to start. By signing and resigning Brown and Bartell the rams do have some holes. I would love the rams to look at some of the remaining linebackers in free agency as well as a 2nd CB. I’ve also heard rumors about Fred Robbins being cut from giants…. with spagnuolo ties could be a good pick up.
Agreed
I agree trying to address every single hole is nearly impossible, but so far so aggressive (good). I am hopeful the Rams specifically try to do what they can and not take on any dead weight, with that I will be happy. Now that Holt looks to be cleared, the eight million will be spent where and are we ready to make Donnie and Kennan the primary????
Cowherd this morning...
spoke about having enough weapons, though not too much. He was speaking in the context of the Cowboys dropping TO, but it applies with the Rams as well. If they pick up the right guys at the right positions, they can have an awful strong showing this year, especially considering the continued suckage of the NFC West.
I’m hopeful that this next season will be promising and relatively successful. Remember: even a 9-7 (or even an 8-8) team can make the playoffs in the NFC. Once in the playoffs, any given Sunday…
