Drafting for the future (Offense)
This is my first post so hello to everyone. With that being said I am a big Rams fan even though they aren't my absolute favorite team (Eagles) but they are my 2nd favorite and have been since I was around 7 or 8. I am 17 almost 18 now so I have been through all the glory years, great years, somewhat good years and the past two seasons. Anyway looking over the Rams roster its clear that their are two problems with it number 1: They are a team that isn't that talented throughout most positions and number 2: they are a young team without much young talent except for the d-line. So with that in mind I looked at this years draft and picked out a few players who could be low risk high reward type players. The kind that are available from the 5th round below and won't take up much cap room and if they are busts then you can just cut them with no problem but if they excell then you have a steal. I tried to pick out 2 players at every position who could come in and learn the system for a season or two and contribute in spots or special teams, then start to contribute regularly including possibly starting once they learn the system. Please give me comments and tell me what you think Starting with...
Quarterback
John Parker Wilson(Alabama) He won't be a gunslinger but I bet he could be a really solid backup qb. He is a great game manager who doesn't make many mistakes.
Chase Holbrook(New Mexico State) He has good size and experience, and is considered easy to coach. Doesn't have a big arm but he has enough zip ton the ball o put it where it needs to go. Deciphers defenses really easily. Given time to adjust to the speed of the pro game he could probably start in a couple of seasons.
Running Back
Kory Sheets(Purdue)He has good size and speed and fights for yardage. Is an above average receiver for a RB and can block. Only downside is experience
Bernard Scott:(Abilene Christian)A DII prospect who ran for over 5,000 in 3 years with 74 rushing tds. Also a good reciever and would be a good change of pace back with SJ. Probably could be undrafted free agent so he would be cheap
Receiver
Ramses Barden(Cal Poly) I feel bad about this, I have been a fan of his for the last 2 years and just when I think he could be a steal he starts moving up everyones draft boards because of his size and toughness and ability. Would be great for the Rams who need a big receiver
Jarret Dillard(Rice)Won't dominate like he did in college but his intangables are immeasurable. Decent size and quickness but is a big time playmaker. Could one day possibly be a number 1 receiver
Tight End
Anthony Hill(North Carolina state) Great size, built like a linemen. Decent quickness for his size and a good receiver. Can be a team leader. His blocking is better than Brandon Pettiegrew who is consider the best TE this draft.
Tripp Chandler(Georgia)Not a good receiver but is a good blocker with good size. Has some potential to be a sub package blocker
Tackle
Lydon Murtha(Nebraska) A big guy who is very athletic for his size. Plays with good leverage and technique. Could possibliy start one day. Looks to be able to play both tackles spots. Kind of like Adam Goldberg
Sean Sester(Purdue) BIg enough to play guard, has decent but not great speed. Can play top heavy and is sometimes top heavy nevertheless he is a try hard player who may not be a full time starter but could be a valuable backup
Guard
Travis Bright(BYU) Has good size but his speed makes him valuable for a pull guard. He has great character and potential as a possible starter one day who can contribute almost immediantely.
Louis West(Henderson State) To clearly imagine his size without ever seeing him just imagine a much taller and heavier Ted Washington. Absolute beast in the trenchs in both run and pass protection. Played for a small school so he will be a bit of a project and at 375 lbs could probably afford to drop 30 or more pounds to improve his speed
Center
Antoine Caldwell(Alabama) He can play any position the line including LT. has good size and speed combo and has decent strength. Workout numbers aren't eye popping but when I watch film of Alabama he stands out more than teammate Andre Smith. Above average technique, will probably be a 2nd or 3rd round pick but he will be well worth it.
Rob Bruggeman(Iowa) Good height, decent weigth but still filling out. Has decent technique but still improving. Great character. Not necessarily special but tries hard every play and never slows down until the game is over.
Like I said before please give me some comments and thanks for reading :D

Nice post
A good start to the group. And thanks for looking at some of the later-round names. I think we’ve all talked Curry/Monroe/Crabtree nearly to death.
Out of the names you bring up, the standouts to me are Chase Holbrook, who sounds like he could become a very useful 3rd-string QB, upgrading to capable backup over time; Ramses Barden, who we’ve already discussed here; and Antoine Caldwell as a new supersub for the O-line, replacing Nick Leckey.

Solid post. Some interesting names thrown out there. I may one of the few who would advocate going with Bulger/Berlin at QB this year and then spending a round 1 pick next year to grab our QB of the future, but Holbrook piques my interest as does Rhett Bomar.
At RB, I was very impressed with Darby’s play last year. I still see too many holes to go after a backup RB at this point.
At OT, if we still haven’t adressed that need by the time these guys become legitimate picks, I’ll be confused, unless we’ve been handed two steals.
Both guards are solid, but the depth we have at guard makes G a low priority pick IMO.
I could say the same for center.
I’d love to see a similar post for CBs, LBs, & WR from your POV. I really think those are the day 2 positions we need to look at, as long as the value is there for a given pick. Great stuff!
Jay Zygmunt, now that you have fired yourself, please have yourself hired by Seattle. Thanks.

I meant more WRs
not just WR. I should have clarified that.

Thanks guys :)
I am currently coming up with a list and it should be posted sometime today. I’ll probably be outlining CB LB and Utility players
