Constantly and consistently Rams Fans and Media bring up the capability and soundness of Bulger. To be fair and direct, lets get some things straight...
First of all for all those who defend Marc Bulger blaming the Offensive Line for all of his struggles and difficulties, please remember this last year he was the 5th most sacked QB, the year before he was the fourth most sacked QB. In both years he was a full 10 points behind the nearest lowest and more than 20 points behind the highest (2007 Roethlisberger sacked 47 times with a rating of 104.1 vs. Bulger sacked 37 times with a rating of 70.3). Clearly Bulger is not on the same team as Big Ben, but one thing is clear seven different QBs with more sacks than Marc had better years and performance. Further some of these QBs take just as many hits, and we are not incuding the performances of several other QBs who took nearly the same amount of sacks and how they performed, nor is Stephen Jackson any slouch to have in the backfield. That being said, just from observation Bulger at his prime, playing with Future Hall of Famers was incredibly accurate and very capable , with that unit. He is obviously shell shocked, and perhaps the culture change of a new regime can change things for his outlook, but to be clear. Key qualitites that need to present in a great QB are those that can make plays happen (especially in crunch) and those that can lead. If Bulger possesses these traits can only be answered by Bulger, Fans, and Media for themselves. Make no mistake Bulger is our QB for next year and I think it is time we try to support his cause to give us a great season.
