After 2 1/2 months of down time, Rams players reconvened Monday for the start of their offseason conditioning program. But quarterback Marc Bulger has been "on campus" for nearly a month.
Not to throw passes, but to learn a new offense. After spending most of his NFL career in the "Air Coryell" style offense employed by Mike Martz, and then Al Saunders last season, Bulger is learning to speak "West Coast." Before he can grasp the offense, he's got to get the terminology down with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.
"Coach Shurmur's doing a good job of deciphering everything for me," Bulger said. "But this is definitely going to be the most trying, different scheme that I've had."
Jim Thomas pens a great piece, here, on Bulger's progress in adapting to Pat Shurmur's new offensive scheme. It's short, so read it; that's an order.

it's not about can he or can't he
It’s about how long it will take Bulger, the line, and the receivers to get it together. Bulger had half of his first season to learn the offense, and a half to play it through in 2003. He doesn’t have those six games to sit out this season, and neither do the line or receivers.
Jay Zygmunt, now that you have fired yourself, please have yourself hired by Seattle. Thanks.

That's why it's fortunate that they get this extra mini-camp
One thing to be said about Pat Shurmur’s offense, it stressed QB protection. McNabb is hardly as mobile as he used to be, and yet he was one of the least-sacked quarterbacks in the league last year. Obviously, this places even more weight on the shoulders of the offensive line to get the line calls right. And it also suggests that SJ needs to work on his blocking to round out his game.
"Attaway to stomp 'em. Stomp the piss out of 'em. Stomp 'em when they're down. Kick 'em and stomp 'em. Attaway to go boys. Pound that old Budweiser into you and go get them tomorrow." -- Joe Schultz

good point
you’re thinking of 2002 though. and he was actually on the team in 2001, as well, though he was never on the field.
