Rams release Torry Holt

The Rams released WR Torry Holt this afternoon.

The move comes as no surprise. The team's been trying to trade him for weeks, and with a roster bonus due on March 17, teams chose to just wait it out. It frees up $8 million in cap space, and combined with Orlando Pace's release, gives the Rams $14 million, some of which is already dedicated to free agents Butler and Brown and re-signing Ron Bartell.

The team had to get younger, and Holt wanted to wind down his career with a contender.

Holt leaves the Rams with 869 receptions, 12,660 receiving yards and 74 TDs. Only Isaac Bruce has more receptions, receiving yards and TDs with the Rams franchise.

Business or not, we'll miss seeing Holt in the blue and gold.

sad day

Today is a very sad day in Rams history.
Truly the end of an era.

I will still wear my Holt jersey with pride though.

Had to be done

It makes me sad to see Holt and Pace leave, but this shows that Devaney is not afraid of making the tough decision. We’ve put a lot of faith in him to steer us right, especially for a first-year GM, but he is already acting like a veteran.

I am afraid for our depth at this position...

if we don’t get someone decent in the draft…I’d like to get Crabtree, but with all the other needs, I’d be surprised if they went in that direction, and understandably so…I’d like to know what their plans are for WR.

I hope they take

curry and couple him with the best OT available when their second pick rolls around. WR will have to wait. They have so many needs they can easily afford to take the best player available.

What to do?

I hate to see Torry go, he is a class act. On the other hand I love what the team is doing. they’ve made good pickups in the free agency market, and have some great options in the draft. For better or worse this year sure will be interesting.

If nothing else

This forces Avery & Burton to develop faster. More reps with Bulger can’t be a bad thing.

Jay Zygmunt, now that you have fired yourself, please have yourself hired by Seattle. Thanks.

Need WR - Crabtree

Holt’s gone and, sadly, it’s for the best. Now it is absolutely essential that we pick Michael Crabtree with the 2nd draft pick. Then we could field Crab, Avery and Burton and have a young talented groups of WRs that even Bulger probably couldn’t miss. For everyone that’s worried about getting an O-lineman in the first round, I say keep your powder dry. I looked at the SI Top 50 draftees and between picks 32-50 there are at least three good-excellent OL prospects. And then can use rounds 3-7 to add depth in the OL and the “D”.

They cut my favorite ram on my birthday fri 13th what a curse Holt will be missed....

Holt was the best receiver we had…now what, go get Drew Bennett. Or an old Eddie Kennison, or even better that guy that dropped all those passes from Tom Brady in one of those playoff games. Rams orginization has been makeing alot of bad choices. After they let Bruce walk away what does he do, plays great for a rival team and rubs it in the Rams faces, While we had Drew Bennett dropping wide open touchdown passes by himself. When he did catch a pass he managed to get hurt right after the catch. Rams need a big time wide receiver now more than ever. Avery will be good but how will he do without a proven wide out on the other side like holt??? Burton didnt really prove anything last year during the season. He looked good in the preseason but was being guarded by cbs who didnt even make rosters. I say draft a lineman later in the draft maybe round 3 or 4. Trade down to middle of the first round for extra picks. Get Sanchez or Pat White, the guy looked good at the combine and im pretty sure White was the qb that was balling in the senior bowl game. Get the best available wide receiver with the 2nd pick. Get a running back with the 4th pick to replace wasted draft pick brian leonard. Who the hell drafts a white running back with a high second round pick! Rams need alot of help now considering they cut two of the best players on the team. Look forward to another season of more interceptions than touchdowns. jackson getting hurt… again. barron false starting multiple times in a game and losing because are qb cant get it done when the games on the line.
