Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Trade our 2011 1st rounder to ensure that we have 2 first rounders this coming year in 2010. This talent rich pool has me convinced that we should do whatever we can to maximize our rebuilding process with young talent from this coming draft.

How much money are you willing to spend?

Do you really want to lay out $75 million in guaranteed money to two 22-year-olds in an uncapped year? It’ll be an negotiating bonfire for agents.

I’d try to acquire as many deep picks as I can, because the talent pool should be really deep. But that’s a reason to go for quantity in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds… not necessarily the 1st.

If anything, it's the 2011 first rounder I'd want to keep...

…with all the talks of a rookie salary cap and all. That means we can get great value in round 1 without that ridiculous price tag that gets Stafford as much money as Manning.

Right

Trade away a cost controlled pick for a non cost controlled one.

Not even if we

can get two impact type starters in the 1st? Let’s say we get Suh [popular choice on the board] and another starting D player [whoever it may be], still no?

It is my understanding the NFLPA have filed a suit against the NFLO’s to overturn that [uncapped yr]. IMO, I think it will get overturned. Of course if it doesn’t we should trade our first pick away that will still allow us someone like G. McCoy. The first 5 picks might try and break the bank of each team.

Tho I understand what he [CaliRamFan] is saying. All the curent ’FA’s’ will now become ‘RFA’. If we want someone it involves more than paying them an increased salary, it will cost us draft picks if the other teams lets him go. I’ve read ~200 players will not the the FA market in ’10 as they normally would have.

Interesting events indeed…

So what I am seeing

is that the common rebuttal is to take a business approach and limit the amount of money we invest in players in next years draft because there will be rookie salary caps in the near future. So instead of grabbing two quality players in this next years talent filled draft (1 very early and hopefully one mid to late 1st round would be ideal) is not worth the COST? Guys we are going to have about $35 million dollars available to us for improvements to the roster and I don’t see FA as being our solution considering there arre teams that will throw away money. I understand that maybe we keep the 2011 pick and save a lot of money, but at what cost to the talent provided in that draft….?
Either way I would like to see as many picks in this next years draft as possible. There will be a herd of talent waiting to be plucked.

One draft won't do it

You can’t judge next years value this early. At least not well enough to start mortgaging our future picks. We will pick early next year. The draft may be weaker next year but salary cap won’t be an issue and neither will talent in the top 10 either.

But if I wait

till you have all the younger classmen officially come out, then it won’t look as good as compared to predicting the future.
I am saying it right now…this is going to be one of the highest populated drafts with younger classmen. It will be talent filled and quality players will be had in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, at least more so than in the prior two years.
Disclaimer: I do not have a crystal ball! I only state my opinion.
