Mel Kiper Jr's Top Five 2010 NFL Prospects
I've heard over and over again that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen and Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike are two of the are most 'NFL ready' QBs that will be in next years NFL draft class. Yet when you go to some of the popular sports sites like Scout.com, or Scott Wright's Draft Countdown they are rated after Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow and in some cases even Sam Bradford. I'm thinking that's probably because at the time these sports pundits rated college QBs that are entering the draft next year were not aware of the fact that Clausen and Pike were both going to commit to leaving college as juniors for NFL eligability.
My point being that the Rams should take the 'best player available' in the draft when it's their turn to pick. There should be several good quarterbacks in round 2 and they won't cost us round 1 pay.
So with that here's Mel Kiper Jr's 2010 Big Board as of last week...
Next season, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have a new coach -- and they might need someone new under center as well. I just moved Jimmy Clausen to No. 4 on my Big Board (he was No. 6 last week), and among junior QBs, I finally jumped him over Sam Bradford of the Oklahoma Sooners.
The other big news this week on the Big Board is the fall of Carlos Dunlap of the Florida Gators, who went from No. 3 (last week) to No. 17 (this week). He had off-field issues and will miss the SEC championship game as a result. I also dropped him to No. 4 among junior defensive ends.
Mel's top 5 after the fold
1 Ndamukong Suh DT 6-4 300Analysis: Explosive, relentless and consistent. Last week: No. 1
2 Gerald McCoy DT 6-4 297
Analysis: Disruptive force. Productive NFL career ahead. Last week: No. 2
3 Eric Berry DB 5-11 203
Analysis: Ultimate playmaker, in the Ed Reed mold. Last week: No. 4
4 Jimmy Clausen QB 6-3 223
Analysis: Polished, improved through adversity; under-center experience. Last week: No. 6
5 Sam Bradford QB 6-4 223
Analysis: Has underrated arm, great feel for position; is super accurate. Last week: No. 5

I would put Berry at 2 after Suh
In fact, McCoy might not even be in my top 5 overall
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
You have to read this one
For those of you wanting more than a top prospect - read this. I defy you to come away not htinking Eric Berry would be a perfect fit, if the Rams end up getting him.
Let’s say Suh is gone. And let’s say the QB talent left by the time we pick isn’t what you want in a first rounder. Eric Berry is a leader with the kind of attitude that the Rams organization is targeting, what you’d need in a rebuilding process, and what you’d want in a long term guy. He’s going to be good for a very long time.
*Insider - I aplogize if you can't read that article
I didn’t realize I was signed in as an Insider for that link. It’s a great run down on Berry, it’ll make you want him on the Rams, but if you can’t read it then I apologize, and get your butt signed up.
I thought about it
but then didn’t want to flat out steal the guy’s work….I’ll put something together. There’s a lot, actually.
3k yea we all know how good your draft pics are lol i hate to have you as my GM,

What busts have I suggested? At least give some fodder.

that would require the number 1 pick
and we are sitting at 3 right now.
Future Redbirds! www.futureredbirds.net
Rams Gab! www.ramsgab.com
According to my calculations...
The Rams are sitting at #2 currently.
TB has faced/will face teams with 108 total wins.
St. Louis has face/will face teams with 105 total wins.
Cleveland has face/will face teams with 102 total wins.
So, it’s in the best interests of the Rams to have all NFC West teams lose (since they count doubly) and all NFC South/AFC North teams win. Especially Atlanta and Carolina, as the Rams have faced the Saints once themselves.

Does Eric Berry have experience at corner? I think it would be a great pick up from what i’ve seen from Eric I think he has pro bowl caliber in him. This season alone look at our two safetys they’ve been banged up how awesome would it be to have no worries with this guy back their? Craig Dahl has done a decent job but i can’t imagine relying on him every game to hold up. And Imagine Eric stepping up in the nickel position that could always be an option he’s got great speed and would help in run support tremendously. I’m kind of drooling over the idea of it actually.
In high school
But he’s literally too big. As soon as he got to Tennessee, he immediately transitioned to safety.

Actually Monte Kiffin
said that if he didn’t play Berry at safety that he would be an All-American shut down corner. His fluid movements and ability to turn his hips smoothly is so rare for someone of his size. Add that to his intelligence and you have a gem. If we didn’t have so many holes and two good safeties I would be on this band wagon heavy.
I'm just suggesting that with his size
a team would be better off playing him at safety. Tennessee made the right decision in putting him at the back. But yes, he has the physical tools to play CB if necessary.

He sounds like a winner,
but do we really want to spend our first round draft choice on a position that isn’t all that bad now when we have huge craters in other areas? I know the “best player available” theory, but somehow I don’t think having four good safeties will overcome having no good defensive linemen.
yeah
thats a very good point and why i like the idea and don’t. If Suh is gone I’m not sure McCoy has what it takes if where going to draft someone in the 1st round mine as well go with a guaranteed guy who’s going to make impact every time he steps on the field. Now we have Huge holes in other positions (saftey be one of the ones that is doin meh) that need to be filled thats why i really hope we trade down and get guys with less of a risk. But thats easier said than done trading down is very difficult. Either way i just have a gut feeling that this draft is going to be a great one.
Draft Suh First, then QB
If Suh is in danger of not being available, trade for Cleveland or Tampa’s pick (Gado for their spot). If they don’t trade and draft Suh, bribe them. If that don’t work, kidnap him. If that don’t work,
Next, trade Barron for the next spot and grab McCoy.
Next trade McMichael for the next spot, and grab the best OLB available.
Next trade Carriker for the next spot, and grab Berry.
Next trade Bulger for the next spot and grab best WR available… grab our #3 QB via FA.
The way I see it, we can grab the top 5 spots! These players will be hard to let go, but you really have to this year… it’s a talent laiden pool.
GO RAMS

If the world was only so kind.
Oh, and then we would have to find some way to pay for all that talent.
That might be a problem.

I'd love to see us have that problem
Thats like dating the prom queen, and bitching cause you have to feed her.
Which teams are enough out of their mind
to accept any of those trades? You’ve got to be kidding. All four of them together might get you one fourth round pick if the other team was feeling charitable.
The (man) named Suh
should be our pick. We need help on the D line, and the Big 12 Championship game sold me on trying to get him.
Best moment I've ever seen at a Cards game in person
Looking forward to Cardinals baseball in 2010!
Trafe down
If we have the first pick we could draft Suh and have lots of money tied up on 3 players. We would still be lacking everywere else. He won’t do much without help. Hopefully we could trade down and get a bunch of picks. Even better if we could trade down a second time and get enough picks to upgrade our overall talent base. Once thats done we can look for a player or two that can make a difference.
Oh but he WILL do much without help
DT’s work bascially on their own in the middle. The DE’s will have him helping them, but the middle of the D line is the tip of the spear, so to speak, and he will most definitely plug up the middle without help. He’ll eat double teams and he will be the help rather than needing help.

Rams need PLAYMAKERS
Not simply a bunch of guys who can play. I say we use the pick on the best playmaker we can get instead of trading down. Suh especially is a can’t miss prospect (unlike the QB’s who are all crap shoots)
Suh is the best choice
I agree, and thats, as you know, is saying a lot for me. I’d rather have Suh than trade down. Not very often does the kind of player come along that can justify a first overall pick. But Suh does.
