Atogwe done for the season?
Bad news for the St. Louis Rams. The team lost FS Oshiomogho Atogwe to a shoulder injury late in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Bears. Reports out of Rams Parks today look bleak for the team and the playmaking defensive back who has been one of the few highlights on that side of the ball for the Rams in recent seasons. Atogwe has what is being described as a serious shoulder injury, and may be done for the season.
According to the Rams official Twitter account, Atogwe and the Rams will get further medial opinions before reaching a decision on whether or not to shut him down for the season.
Ouch. Atogwe is playing under a franchise tag this season, and threatened to hold out last year to underscore his desire for a long term deal. If the league and the players don't reach a new labor agreement before the offseason (unlikely) he'll be a restricted free agent, meaning the Rams can hang onto him for a much smaller one year deal. Of course, going that route would more than likely produce some bad blood between the team and its star defensive back. Now, we'll wait and see how his injury affects that situation.
This season keeps getting worse.

Well, not nominated...
…but he’s a finalist. For a DT, that’s simply remarkable. I hope he wins somehow, but I doubt it.

Wow can we just fast forward to next September please?
Conditioning needs to be questioned after this season. The only one left is the water boy, and I heard he may have twisted his ankle.

Lmao, on that note:
Rams WR Steve Julio Spagnuolo listed as “ACTIVE” for the Rams game against the Tennessee Titans.

As far as I'm concerned
The off season starts now for Atogwe and Smith. No chances necessary here.

i really have to agree
as much as i want to win. Is it really worth messing up these guys especially atogwe. Im Very confused with Jason Smiths injury but as long as he’s not playing left tackle does it really matter?

Smith has post-concussion syndrome
This can go along like this for a month or more (in extreme cases it can last for years) and then one day clear up. There’s no timetable right now.
Not everyone who gets a concussion gets Post-Concussion Syndrome. No one really knows why some people get it, for how long they’re affected by it, and if they’ll ever get it again. Plus, there’s no treatment for it. Other than rest. It’s pretty much a mystery to the medical world. They can tell you you have it, but they can’t tell you what will definitely cause it, how long it will last, or why it stopped bothering you.

I've had 2 that I've know for sure
and I think 1 or 2 more.
The last one I had, I developed PCS. It sucks.

I can relate-
When I was born, the Dr held me up by my ankles, looked at me and slapped my mother. I think she got a post what-ever-you-call-it.

how long have you had it?
Because ever since i stopped playing soccer i’ve just been stupider and headaches are common i also have a horrible appetite and i have weird mood swings. It’s probably all in my head and im just really stressed out but Id like to know a little more i might check out webmd or head up to the best hospital in the world johns hopkins thats 15 mins away. BTW your probably asking yourself how does one hurt them selves playing soccer? Easy playing Goalkeeper and playing with a chip on your shoulder and getting kneed in the face while your defender shields the attack. Also my worst injury in the sport was on a breakaway which i saved the ball i didnt quite get all of it and he swung to take a kick and kicked me in my right arm breaking my radius. played 30 seconds til i rolled up my sleeve and almost vomited haha.

It's pretty well known nowadays that concussions
can lead to depression later in life. The more you suffer (even minor ones) increase the chance you’ll have “issues” later in life.
I don’t have PCS anymore. That was almost 5 years ago. But I probably had it for at least a year. I don’t know for sure since i didn’t get tested every day like a professional athlete would. But, extra strength Excedrin helped me make it though many days.
My symptoms lessened the longer I had it. The first week I had a splitting headache 24 hours a day and would get dizzy/light-headed/tunnel vision every time I’d bend over or turn my head to quickly or stand up from a seated position. Then after a week or so of that, I still had the migranes, but the dizzyness and stuff wouldn’t show up every day but maybe ever 3rd or 4th day or so. This went on about another week.
Then for the next 4 or so months, I just had the migrane. Every day.
Finally, one day I noticed I didn’t have to take an Excedrin but I had to the next day. Eventually it went from every other day to every couple of days to maybe once a week with a set back every once in a while over the better part of at least a year and a half.
Now I get headaches from time to time. Actually, I think I get them more often then I realize, i’ve just learned to live with ’em.
This is why I’ll never let my kid (when I have one) play football. I love the sport, but I just don’t trust coaches to make the right decisions. Plus, it’s just too dangerous for kids in my opinion. Hell, I don’t even trust my self. I’m a baseball coach and two seasons ago we had two kids get concussions by getting hit in the head with baseballs.
I can remember thinking it wasn’t that big of a deal since baseball isn’t a contact sport, but in retrospect, you never know when you’re going to get hit in the head. Heck, the one kid got hit in the head (wearing a helmet) while diving back in to 2nd base while we were practicing pickoff plays in the field house.
It doesn’t get much more “freak accident” than that…..

That was very useful
Yeah migraines is what i currently experience daily i just zone out can not concentrate anymore really. I’m going to the doctors to get full evaulated cat scans blood drawn the works. i had a rough past year and a month i wont get into my personal life but I struggled with some things. And ever since i walked off the field as a junior in high school things have never been the same. And I really want to get back into shape and play for a Essex Community college the coach thier asks a couple of my friends that play thier if im still around playing and everything. And they need a Goalie bad ever since the team lost players to colleges picking up players and some of the foreign guys leaving for back home. Thanks alot though this information has been quite useful. It very well could be PCS or just alot of stress and maybe a Psychological disorder of some sorts.

Yes Very Useful
as far as not letting your kid play football, i don’t think its that bad coach, my kid played this year, and not one concussion on the team, i dont even think there was one in our whole league(just our teams different age groups is what i mean) for that matter………concussions do come with the territory when you play any sports, but that shouldnt hold anyone back from having fun. You should see these kids playing ball, i would rather watch my kids team play than almost anything else, these kids really love the game…………..
I Want The Rams Back In LA....The More They Lose The More Of A Chance That It Will Happen....Sorry St Louis You Cant Keep A Team(Twice)...Rams Come Home....We'll Be Here For You When You Do

It's not just the head injuries.
Altough, I think head injuries is too high a risk to mess with.
It’s a lot of abuse. I pretty much ran into things (people, walls, the floor, the ground, trees, whatever) as a young person. I actually quit playing high school football after my sophomore season for multiple reasons (one big one being an ACL injury). After that I played a lot of “backyard football” which was way rougher than any organized football game I ever played.
At 34, I know have two bad knees, a torn rotator cuff (that’s never been, nor will be, fixed), the above mentioned head issues, a wrist that probably needs to be fixed again, a wrecked lower back and neck, and other little things from time to time.
I was big into contact sports and I think that stuff really catches up to you. But I will say that it’s amazing what you can put up with if you just have to. There are times I think about it and there’s never a time when something isn’t hurting. I had issues with my IT band (caused by the knee injuries) that killed me for a while. I saw a therapist about it and after a while I just got good at coping with it.
What really got me thinking about it is my cousin is a tri-athelete. He’s been doing it for like close to 10 years and he’s never suffered one injury while doing it or training for it. But guess what, he never played any contact sports (not many sports at all really) when he was a kid. He’s 3 years older than me, but I’ve got so much more wear and tear on my body that I have trouble running for 2 miles, multiple days in a row before I start having issues that cause me to take time off. Really, I shouldn’t have to ice my knees after a mile!!!!!!!
It’s just not right!!!!!!!!!!!
And i’m kind of rambling……heh….
