Fun Stats, Laurinaitis among league leaders...

James Laurinaitis is currently 4th in the NFL in solo tackles, only one behind the mighty Patrick Willis. He's up by 14 on Texans' rookie (and former Trojan, Fight On!) Brian Cushing, and a whopping 28 tackles more than Seahawks' linebacker Aaron "Dirty" Curry.

Unfortunately, Laurinaitis' production hasn't saved the Rams from allowing 148.5 rush yards a game this season, good for 28th best in the league. I wonder if there's a guy from Nebraska that can help us with that. He's playing Texas this weekend, and it sure as hell isn't Adam Carriker.

Also, Donnie Avery now has as many career TD receptions as DeSean Jackson. I'm just saying.

Go Rams!!!

He's on pace for 110 solo tackles this season

Let’s see if he can get there. 5 games 25 tackles, He can do it barring further injury.

I was comparing Avery’s and Jackson’s stats and…
Jackson has fumbled 7 times to Avery’s 2. Jerry Rice averaged 1.2 fumbles/season, Jackson’s averaged at least 3.5, and Avery’s averaged 1. Not really a telling stat, just found it interesting. Also, Az Hakinm 2.8 fumbles/season. If you’re worse at fumbling than him, you know you’re doing something wrong. Although, he’s also doing lots of things right.

How many fumbles per touch?

I believe Jackson keeps rougher company up the middle as well.

Yeah, you can't compare running backs and receivers.

Everything is different from the number of touches to the type of contact they run in to.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I was talking about DeSean Jackson

So they were all WRs.

Whoops!!!

But I still stand by my statement and I challenge you to refute that you can compare running backs and wide receivers!!!

Try as you might Carneros, you CAN’T make that argument!

Agree

no comparison cab be made in RB and WR stats. Aint the same job, aint the same skill set. Unless your Marshall Faulk, and you aint!

One more gratuitous use of the word aint!

I wonder

if JL’s stats will drop once we solidify our line.. sometimes when your linebacker is have a monster year in tackles, that is not a good thing. Yes? No?

Maybe

What if your D-line is tying up all the blockers allowing your MLB to take all the tackles? Then it wouldn’t mean bad things for the D-line. You can probably tell by the number of impact tackles he has, if they still keep that stat somewhere, I couldn’t find it. But that’s tackles for less 2 or 3 yard gains, I don’t remember if its under 3 or 3 or less. But it can mean that I guess.

I think another telling stat is the fact that OJ Atogwe is second on the team in tackling...

…usually you see that with safeties that come up in run support consistently, but most of his tackles come to clean up the front seven’s mess. That isn’t good.

What I think would happen with a better front four is that JL would get more opportunities to make these impact tackles, behind, at, or near the LOS. His tackle stats may be down somewhat, but his impact in the game would be felt much more.

Wrong Safety

Atogwe is a free safety, meaning he’s tackling guys in the secondary. Typically you’d bring the strong safety up for run support, that’d be Butler. So for Atogwe to be making a lot of tackles is indeed a bad sign.

As far as JL goes, I think when they strengthen the middle of the D line, it’ll just mean more runs to the edge, off tackle, etc.

In theory the LB’s will benefit from a strong D line because it’ll mean the offense won’t be able to get their Guards out to block the LB’s, and LB’s would be more free to get to the ball carrier

Our crappy D-Line will wear out Lauranitis in no time at this rate.

He’s having to pick up the slack of missing Witherspoon too. Even an Ironman can’t constantly take that kinda punishment per game. How much $$$ is Chris Long making to provide 1-2 tackles per game? We need a front four that can actually make a tackle or get in somebody’s way once in a while. Is that asking too much???

by edpjr on Dec 3, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

Yeah! Sorta

I agree with Long needing to contribute more tanglible numbers to the Rams game. Please don’t tell me about how important it is to provide pressure and get close, because he’s not doing that enough either. He needs stops.

But I can’t agree with the idea of Luarinaitis wearing out. He’ll be fine. We actually want our LB’s making loads of tackles. Even if they draft Suh, don’t expect JL to get less tackles.

you know...

the beast from nebraska suh looks like a top 5 pick lock. theres our rookie next year he would clog up the hole and create pressure 4.5 sacks of 6 sacks of nebraska. those 4.5 sacks were against the mobile colt mccoy

Oh yeah...

yeah

a warren sapp type guy in Suh is a must. I want to see are d line getting more tackles on these backs. I want the opposing offense to feel are fearsome foursome wrath. What a far way we’ve come from that?
