Week 9 Open Thread
It's a bye week for the St. Louis Rams, time to assess, regroup, and get ready for a second half push. Hey, we're on a winning streak too. Here's a quick look at some links of note for your bye week needs.
- Here's a Chris Long development story from the PD.
- Former Rams S Anthony Smith, picked up from Green Bay, was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars. I kind of liked Smith's potential, but he was buried a bit with James Butler and Craig Dahl back from their injuries.
- So Dave Checketts gets (and for a time Rush Limbaugh) gets all the attention for his group's interest in the Rams, but Carl Vogel, a long-time media executive and current board member for DISH Network and Shaw Communications (cable, etc.), is part of Checkett's SCP Worldwide group.
- There's still plenty of fantasy action today, so here's recommendations for who to start and who sit.
- Some big injury situations out there today. Calvin Johnson still not confirmed to play today, and we'd like to see his team beat the SeaChickens.

Wasn't DISH Network

Dammit...
…Arizona is kicking ass. There’s still half a season left so I will act like this division race isn’t over.

Tye Hill scores a TD
Tye hills scores on a 62 yard interception return. Where the heck was that when hewas wearing a rams jersey? Witherspoon and Hill now both have defensive TDS. How many does our D have?

With that play...
…Tye Hill has basically tied his entire production for us.
And our defense has one touchdown via Leonard Little’s awesome play.

Seriously....
…but it was nice to see our D have a better day after the last 3 outings. Keep in mind we were missing McCoy, who is Barkley’s security blanket. He’s still a freshman after all, so luckily our defense had a more Trojan-like day yesterday. We’ll be back next year. Do u think Joe/RoJo will stay? Because I’m pretty sure Damian is gone, unfortunately…

The Chris Long story
Was underwhelming. The fact that he’s playing as a backup indiactes what we all know, the he isn’t playing with an edge. I’m glad the coaching staff is going with their best DE’s on gameday, no matter if he was a #2.
Flajole sounded like he spoke in a measured tone, and didn’t have the vibe of “He’s on the verge of breaking through”. I don’t think anything will be changing in a hurry for Long, but with his continued great effort he could make his own luck once in a while. I hope so.

Do you have any stats on this?
It seems like Spags is actually slowly moving Long into a DL position. Long is lead tackler on the DL unit when playing inside. Dumb idea?

Stats on....?
I read that he was the lead tackler but it says he plays in relief of Hall and Little, and I got the impression that was only on the outside.
I surely don’t know enough about football or the Rams personnel to tell Spags any of his ideas are dumb.

Heh-Heh oops--
No-I was wondering if I was having a dumb idea about something like that happening. I was looking for some stats (because I don’t know) if a high % of his tackles were made when he was playing the 4 DE for DL’s blitz package, or if he had got them (tackles) while play his rotation at DE.

...HIGHLY doubt Long has the muscle to play inside
Considering he has trouble be blocked out by tight ends. The interior could get him killed. I know Spags did some creative line ups for the NYG but he doesn’t have that talent pool in the Loo to experiment with and if Long doesn’t have a power rush to use on OT’s and TE’s, I can’t imagine what he would do in there but get trampled.
Maybe if we put Hall in side and Little inside? To be honest I don’t know if his lineups in New York were gimmicky or forward thinking.

i love tampa bay's decision to go for it
teams with nothing to play for should be required to take chances. and the 2-point conversion…ballsy.

Just a note
When we were talking about my predictions and I mentioned you had to account for “unpredictability,” this was one of those games. Of course, I had GB winning, but you have to account for these outliers across an 8-game stretch.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Detroit-Seattle
is shaping up as a pretty interesting contest too

Warner's Jeckyl and Hyde approach...
The Cards walloped the Bears today behind Kurt Warner’s 5 TD passes. Last week, it was 5 INT’s against weak Carolina for Kurt. It seems that every 5th or 6th game, Kurt blows up, but then comes back with 3,4, or 5 stellar games. I like that percentage as long as one of his bad games doesn’t happen in the playoffs. As I suspected all along, the Titans are trying to mount a comeback similar to the 0-5 Rams of 2002. The Titans fell on hard times, but they still have a team with alot of NFL calibre players. The change at QB was the spark it took to bring them back into reality. They sure polished off the way-overated 49ers today and may sweep the NFC West. I hated to see the Sea Gulls beat the Lions today, but it was pretty much ordained. The Lions are likely still the worst team in the NFL.

Lions in the bottom three
don’t forget the Browns

Our Competition For a QB in the Draft? Quite Possibly the 49ers
I would bet after changing QB’s in mid-season, and then having the new guy come out and throw 3 INT’s for a loss, Mike Singletary is looking at the QB’s available in next year’s class. He won’t suffer through stupidity with these guys again next year. He doesn’t play that.

OT: If Jermaine Gresham TE is available in the second round
would you take him?
Also OT: My favorite mock draft (notice round 3)
I like all of the picks in the first 4 rounds for us. I’d be happy with that if we got it.

That's what I was going to say.
No Sam Bradford, no Eric Berry, no Jimmy Claussen.
How can you even be anywhere close to accurate if you only list Seniors?
Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.
