'Tis the Season for Null
Firstly, I must say R.I.P Marc Bulger. Your career as a Ram may be over, but I'll always remember you as the inconsistent, overpaid QB that you were over the last two and a half years. You didn't deserve to go out injured, but you obviously weren't the future, sorry to be so cold about it, but hey, you're a millionaire. Retire and live comfortably in Hawaii
Anyway, With Kyle Boller the new QB, it's becoming more and more obvious that at some point over the season, Null will see time. Should he be fed to the wolves? Will he be forced to start? With the injury bug biting the Rams yet again, we might very well see Null start a game or two, as Boller is no stranger to getting hurt.
People have been clamoring for him, but we haven't seen much in the way of news about him for a while. Is he the next Tom Brady, or is he the next Brock Berlin? It's tough to tell, but to expect anything out of a very raw prospect rookie with this team is...well...expecting too much.
So what do you think? Would you like to see him play just for the hell of it? Or do you want him to get some experience (at the expense of winning? or just about everything else?) Weigh in with the poll and with the comments.

3k summed it up
… our goal should now be to evaluate who we have, period. As much as i’d love to win, I don’t think we should go for broke at the expense of the cause.
Like the movie “The Patriot”, we can’t overlook the right thing to do just to beat someone. Winning is nice, but we have the furture to think about. And who know, maybe Null IS our best chance at winning.. we need to know this.

Is winning experiene in itself?
A team can get a lot of intangible work done if they can win a few games.
I for one wouldn’t want to see a team just go out their an evaluate instead of compete. I’m not going to watch them trot out and practice.

We've already seen the timing issues with Bulger
and Boller. Null doesn’t even practice with the first team. Mop up duty only, we’ve been close these last few games. It will take time for him to adjust from West Texas A and M, and I don’t think its time yet. I don’t want to appear like we’re giving up on the season.

I Will Remember Bulger As.........
the QB who was easily top 10 or better, until he got the big pay day. When I heard the news about him getting paid, i remember thinking to myself “I hope he stays hungry”……..well the rest is history. As far as Null, only if we are up by 30 or down by 30 should this “KID” be brought out……..the NFL is slightly, not much, but slightly different than West Texas A & M……….we should sign Jeff Garcia is what we should do, he’s sitting home right now with his playboy model wife doing nothing…….oh wait, i wouldnt come back either.
I Want The Rams Back In LA....The More They Lose The More Of A Chance That It Will Happen....Sorry St Louis You Cant Keep A Team(Twice)...Rams Come Home....We'll Be Here For You When You Do

What a different team it will be next year...
Now that Bulger’s fate is sealed, I figure several others will be gone via retirement or outright release. I think Little, Hall and Carriker will call it a career. I don’t think Boller will be asked back either unless he exhibits some high performance over the next 6 weeks, which I’d deem unlikely. Barron, Darby, Gado, McMichael – take the train. I think Otogwe will push the limits of his worth and end up playing somewhere else too. And, if he wasn’t signed for another 5 years, I think Jacob Bell would be deadmeat.

Sounds like an honest
assesment. Personally, I’d like to see Carriker have a complete year before he retires and think Otagwe will stay. The only player I’d like to see stay is Little, only under a reworked contract for less $$ and less playing time. He would be an asset to a DL rotation.
I think we can pick up a running back from TN; LenDale White. He will probably be let go. He’s a big runner and runs similiar to Jackson, meaning up the middle or thru the tackles. He could help lighten the load on Jackson a bit without losing too much. It all comes down to money, but a quality back up sure would be worth it. http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&source=hp&q=lendale%20white%20stats&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv#q=lendale+white+&hl=en&emb=0&qvid=lendale+white+&vid=-2930799751000414271&view=2

LenWhale is not close to Jackson
“lighten the load on Jackson a bit without losing too much”……I think the drop off from SJ39 to LenWhale is huge.

You're right,
a master of the obvious, he’s not in the same tier as the top 5 running backs in the league. But he does have size, a little speed for short gains, and is better than any back up we currently have. Just curious, who do you think we should sign as a back-up? We need a back up and trying to get someone to share some of the load, be productive and not break the bank is what we need. We can draft someone, but w/so many needs should we draft?

dude you gotta chill a little
carriker was forced to gain weight and play out of position his rookie season so quit being a debbie downer

+1 but agree Little could be a good rotation DL
as sated below by RamsFan1979, however, if he’s retiring soon, may as well either get some value from him (ala New England strategy) or just let him go and get this new era rockin’ and rollin’

why dont the rams just go out and get jeff garcia for next year.
he as always been decent for teams in need of a stop gap solution at QB and he’s familiar with the west coast offense

Many Reasons for Null
I put this somewhere else, but since this is where the Null discussion is, I’ll recap my top reasons for putting him in the game:
Start with Bulger’s contract situation all but requiring the Rams finding another starting QB. Since that’s the case,
1. this season is already non-competitive
2. and yet we already avoided the dreaded Oh-Fer
3. drafting a QB is a consideration, so naturally you’d do your due diligence and see what you already drafted last year.
And the reason you’d play Null before the last game of the year: because if he plays really well you’d want to see him do it again before going into the offseason. A single game from Null, played very well, raises more questions about the future of Rams QB than it answers.
Are they concerned he’ll play poorly and that will reflect poorly on the decision to draft him, and force them to admit they have no QB? If they don’t play him, it’s a indictment of their QB drafting because it means they think they got a zero with his pick.

If they are concerned about poor play
Let him start. If he is playing like Favre against the Rams in the playoffs and has 6 turnovers, put Boller in. If he is doing not hurting us too bad, leave him in

Someone said
They were concerned about his confidence, putting out there before they think he’s ready and having him get crushed.
I don’t know about that, I think it’s kind of an individual thing, but to not play him in this situation can’t be good for his confidence either. He knows the state of the team, and their need for QB talent. He has to wonder whether they’ll draft someone right after they drafted him, and that can’t feel too good. Most guys, I would think, would be dying for a chance to show them he can do it.

Drafting of Null
Question by C.C. – Are they concerned he’ll play poorly and that will reflect poorly on the decision to draft him, and force them to admit they have no QB?
Answer – Silly to be concerned about drafting a qb in the late rounds who plays poorly. I think Null is the real deal. He seems to have the “it” factor – so let’s see if it is more or less than “seems” once he has a couple games under his belt!

i would like us to win this game so i think boller should start but
first sign of bad playing just put in null
by james535 on Nov 26, 2009 7:38 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
I honestly think Null will be forced to play very soon
maybe even this game, because Boller is not exactly very durable. That probably scares the coaching staff. They don’t have a lot of confidence in the guy at this point, and knowing he’s a sack away from getting into game is scary if you don’t think he can handle it.
I don’t think they’ll take out Boller for him due to poor play, at least this week.
