Watching Bulger's head

Keep an eye on St. Louis Rams QB Marc Bulger's head injury. The team sounds like they're more concerned with his head than his groin and hamstring.

Concussions are big talking point today after the injury to Roethlisberger. If Bulger is found to have had a concussion, it clouds his future, since this won't be his first. How many concussions has Bulger suffered? I know of at least two others in the last three years, but for some reason I want to say he's had three since 2006.

really curious

to see how this plays out. If Marc is done, or decides he’s done, this will be a big decision for Spags although i’m almost positive Boller would be promoted. But who knows really.

If Bulger's done

that really hamstrings us in the draft. We’d probably end up going QB in the first.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

Unless Suh available

how could you really pass on him honestly.. do you see a milestone QB available in this draft because I don’t.

Also, I think we all thought

QB will be a priority next year anyway… not sure why you’d think because he’s done now that things are different… were you thinking Marc would still be our QB next year or at least an option 3k?

my opinion

If Bulger is ok, he’s the “QB of the Present” for better or worse and the Ram’s can draft or develop(Null?) a “QB of the Future” at their own pace.

If Bulger is done, they’ll need the QBotF to be the QBotP. It’s pretty obvious they’re in no rush to put Null on the field because he isn’t QBotP material.

Null likely has potential in the future, but not enough to bridge the gap. That’s how I see it.

I’m kinda curious as to what will happen to Brady Quinn. I don’t get to watch many Browns games, so I don’t know if his struggles are because he doesn’t have or if it’s because he’s on such a bad franchise. It seemed like he was destined to be jettisoned from the Browns early in the season and still may be. If he is, is he an option for the Rams? He’s still pretty young…

If Bulger is ok

than he will most likely start/play next season, regardless of whether the Rams draft a QB in the draft or not. Even if the Rams draft a QB in the first round, Bulger will be more talented than said QB. (Rookie QB’s start when they compete with QB’s like Kellen Clemens, Josh Johnson, Joey Harrington, Derek Andersen. Bulger is clearly not the same Bulger from a few years ago, but even the harshest critics of Marc Bulger should be able to admit that Bulger is more talented than those QB’s mentioned above).

The other situation in which rookie QB’s start is if the supporting cast around him is decent enough to support him. For all of those who want to see Keith Null start the rest of the season must really want to see him get slaughtered because unless he is the next Tom Brady/Kurt Warner, he isn’t ready to handle it.

I want to make it clear that while Bulger is CLEARLY not the solution, he is also not the problem. We have bigger concerns than QB. After yesterday’s game, I don’t see how we don’t address our defense in the first round (DT or DE)

by jb22 on Nov 23, 2009 2:29 PM CST up reply actions

I'd be ok with acquiring Quinn

I bet he can be had for less than they spent on him (a #1) and I know for sure he isn;t anywhere near fully developed. He has cieling left to show. I bet the kid can be pretty good, in the right environment.

by CoachConnors on Nov 23, 2009 4:03 PM CST up reply actions

the only QB i would want in free agency

is Kevin Kolb. I’d give up a first rounder for him no problem.

by jb22 on Nov 23, 2009 4:11 PM CST up reply actions

unless our first rounder is a top 10 pick

which it would be most likely. I retract my previous statement. I would give up a mid level first rounder

by jb22 on Nov 23, 2009 4:12 PM CST up reply actions

No way.

He’s not worth a 1st round pick.

Yeah

I certainly thought it was an option, though one I didn’t like at all

I could make the case for Bradford but more importantly

is the hype it would give the franchise. QB picks mean money for front offices.

Does anyone know how Bradfords rehab is going?

I think that will be more and more relevant as the draft approaches.

by dbcouver on Nov 23, 2009 3:24 PM CST up reply actions

He's still in the easy stage

Rest, ice, rest. The rehab is a much bigger determinant of how quickly his rehabilitation is going

Did I just say the rehab determines how his rehabilitiation is going?

Yes, yes I did. Allow me to rephrase, if you shall – his physical rehabilitation period will be a better indicator of his progress. Ah, preview button. How I scorn thee.

i would

not want someone that does not know how to fall as a QB, twice injured the same shoulder because he lands on his side

Any idiot would know that.

D Line is a must

It is going to happen with a huge signing/trade or the draft. I like Clifton Ryan, Ah You and others at times but their not consistent and seem to get owned on most plays. They are solid back ups at best. Spags is known for his pass rushing defense so expect at least 3 new acquisitions A DE/DT/OLB.

I hope so

I agree that there isn’t a top 5 QB worth it.

Kevin Demoff said

the Rams will have 33 million in cap space this coming off season. Assuming the draft class will eat up around 6-7 million, that leaves up to 26 million ish in free agency. That is a LOT. We don’t have to pick up a big name FA. But think about how many mid level guys we could sign. Some positions are better addressed in free agency than in the draft. For example, a big physical CB, 2 or 3 competent LB’s to add to the rotation, a #2 running back. We also need to sign Atogwe to a long term deal. That leaves us to address the D-Line, the O-line (assuming we lose Barron to free agency), possibly QB if we see something we like. I’d like to see us draft heavily on defense though. Most defenses are about the system, not the individual player. All elite defenses don’t take a step back when someone gets injured, because they have great depth.

If Bulger indeed has a more than mild concussion

It may require us to make a move this season that I believe we should be making anyway. Not to capitalize on an injury but we need another back up now more than ever. As I’m sure everyone knows I threw in the towel on Null long ago. Like when he was picked.

That Bulger kid...

…is a tough SOB. I know he doesn’t exude that quality because of his thinner frame, but that is a tough SOB. Most other QBs would have retired by now. Let’s see how Aaron Rodgers feels after the beatdown he’s taking right now. At least he hasn’t been concussed, but it’ll come unless they draft someone like Okung.

But Bulger, man. Handclaps. I’d be dead.

Injury Update

ST. LOUIS — Rams quarterback Marc Bulger might not play against the Seahawks in Week 12 after suffering multiple injuries against the Cardinals.

Bulger suffered a strain to what coach Steve Spagnuolo called his “groin-hamstring” area. Bulger also sustained a blow to the head. He will undergo tests for potential concussion Tuesday. Bulger also awoke Monday with swelling in his knee. He will under go an MRI exam on the knee this afternoon.

Also on the injury front, fullback Mike Karney is undergoing an MRI for a potential neck injury. Defensive end Leonard Little is undergoing an X-ray on his lower back. Right tackle Jason Smith is undergoing tests after suffering a potential concussion. Running back Steven Jackson has soreness in his lower back (a “muscle strain” was what Spagnuolo called it).

Bulger’s injuries were most serious. Spagnuolo did not sound concerned about Jackson’s ability to play in Week 12.
