we here alot about the draft but...
How about the free agency? I really think the free agency is equally important as the draft. The pick ups we've acquired have been a real success I do realize their has been disappointment in some maybe but they defiantly have helped a lot. Jason Brown, Mike Karney, and the safety James Butler (literally) are all true nfl starters and have had a positive impact i think we can agree.
This is my opinion and a pretty simple one. Fill your needs in the free agency and Draft by the best available player mindset. Because in the NFL and especially the rams players get injured all the time and some do not rebound after it and you do not know when this is going to happen or at what position so mine as well go with a safe approach. With free agents you know a little more about what you're getting. You know how they play, how productive they are, and you can make an assessment to see if he fits into your system.
My real reason for writing this is to see who you guys think we should pick up. Heres just a couple guys that come to mind.
Arron Kampman, he doesn't belong in a 3-4 defense i really believe he was a lot better in the 4-3 and he is a pass rushing nightmare age might be a little bit of an issue, 29 years old still has some good years in the tank.
Johnny Jolly, Ray Edwards, Seymour, Winston Justice, Chase Blackburn,Miles Austin?, and Vincent Jackson
Sorry the list was so vague im watching the world series and im getting really sleepy so please comment on who you guys think would be a good pick up?

While I'm thrilled with our win...
we’ve still got a lot of work to do to become competitive. I think you are 100% correct about Free Agency. We need some more proven NFL calibre players. The three you named have worked out pretty well. As far as the draft goes, we need to just suck it up and take the BEST available player(s) OR trade our picks for proven veterans. Our worst areas of need are at QB and D-Lineman. And let’s not kid ourselves, how many teams win a Championship with a championship type QB? Observe recent Super Bowls; Big Ben, Eli, Peyton, Brady, Warner, etc. Sure every now and then a super-strong defensive club pulls it off with a Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson type, but it’s few and far between.

I'd agree
though the free agent signings have to fit your system. You listed the hits, but not the misses.
My favorite FA right now would obviously have to be Vincent Jackson. He’s a huge target (6’5") and has slowly developed into a very productive target. Winston Justice could be a good pickup at RT, a position I think we should fill in FA – a young, cheap find to slide over JSmooth to LT>
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

I doubt that
VIncent Jackson will be a FA. He will be resigned by the Chargers I would think. A 26 year old 6’5’’ beast of a receiver. I think they would, but I don’t know about their financial situation. Vincent Jackson is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, non-Rams, and I’d love him to be a Ram, but I don’t think its likely that he won’t be a Charger next year.

What about Boldin?
He’s not too happy in AZ, still. He’s got size, he’s proven himself as a player, and if we can afford him he’d love to be the #1. Adrian Wilson also wants out or more money from AZ as well… who knows what the offseason will give us as far as vets, but it’ll be interesting to see who Spags goes after.

Well,
if we would have drafted Desean Jackson instead of Avery, we wouldn’t have this WR problem.
S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

Yes we would
We would still need a big #1 WR. And Jackson would almost definitely not be as productive in our offense with our players around him. So either way we’d still need a guy like Vincent Jackson or Larry Fitzgerald. DeSean and Avery are the same type of WR. Those guys don’t really help much in the red zone. Vincent would though. This comment was made much harder because I kept typing Jackson and had to change it to their first name.

alot of good jacksons
but your right about desean he would not be as productive here least i dont think so its not like madden where you can trade for him and see how he does then get Donnie back. Don’t look past chris henry either if he comes at a reasonable price i think he might not be a bad pick up minus his off the field issues but i think it could be straitened out. Vincent will come with a price that will be hard to pay and might limit who else we can pick up. I also have a feeling spags and company is going to jump on some of his old players from new york.

And keep in mind
When you watch highlights of DeSean, he’s always getting the ball thrown to him deep. He’s rarely running slants or 5-yard outs.

Wouldn't we then have DeSean Jackson as our number 1 and
Laurent Robinson as our number 2, assuming we still trade for him. Is Robinson’s 6’2 height not big enough to be considered a big target?

i dont think so
id still put laurent robinson as a number one if we “did get” Desean. I just don’t think he has a multi dimensional game. And Robinson from the time he played stated a strong case that he is a big target he can jump.

Agreed with kskillz
You keep Robinson at the 1 and your speed target at the 2.

It all starts with the line.
If you got a good line on both sides of the ball you will be competitive. The secondary isn’t that bad. It seems bad because there is no pressure from the line. Steven Jackson is leading the league in rushing yards, what if he had a better line?

srd great point
that’s how i feel as well. I think Jacob Bell and Barron are close to leaving. I think they’re level of play is too inconsistent to be a part of this team. Winston Justice would be a fine pick up i think with smith at LT and Justice at RT we could have a scary duo. Then have setterstorm, Greco or who ever we draft/sign compete for the LG spot. Im not sold on any of the quarterbacks in the market that would do better then bulger as of right now. So i think we should go with Kampman if we can, Justice, and a talented wide out such as Boldin, Breaston and Jackson someone with experience or wait for it…Issac Bruce gasp only in my dreams plus he knows bulger a little bit and could help the receivers out with what his tendencies are. Then draft by talent

I agree.
I think Setterstrom and Goldberg are more than adequate to replace Barron and Bell. The latter two guys were expensive failures; one a wasted 1st round pick and the other an underperforming expensive FA acquistion. I say; “don’t let the screen door hit you guys on the way out..”

FWIW
I’m putting together my second mock draft. It should be a shocker…

Witherspoon trade
I know it’s old news, but it appears our former LB put in another solid game for Philly last Sunday in their rout of the NYG’s. He had 5 tackles and one assist. That’s just one tackle short of Lauranitis’s performance Sunday. Where were ya’ when we needed ya’ Spoon??? Maybe Spags got rid of a guy that was doggin’ it and saved some $$$ too. Now let’s see if anyone will bite on Barron and/or Bell for a 6th or 7th round pick in the offseason.
