This team is so bad
The Rams have major issues......and I don't think they will be able to fix it........I see an 0-16 season. Their schedule is simply brutal. They cannot shake that culture of losing......no matter who they bring in.....simply pitiful display of football....down right embarassing. Null should start and we need a vertical game. Teams are putting 8 in the box focusing on Jackson because we have not had consistency for others on the team. And good lord the amount of penalties at crucial times in the game....I just want to pull my hair out..........

A coach needs time
You cant hate on spags already. Many have just said it above, this team is in shambles and arnt going to get out in one year. A three year plan would be amazing, hell a five year plan would be optimistic with the team we have right now. A great coach gets players and an organization to buy into his system. Honestly Ill give anything a try after linehan

I don’t hate Spags.
But uhm, I’m less optimistic about our coordinators.

Lived in LA during the Rams and Raiders days. Now based in NorCal, I am still a die hard Rams fan and Raiders season ticket holder.

I at least feel good
about being in basically every game until after halftime. The problem is, our defense can’t win the game.
We DO have an improved D even with a basically non-existent Defensive Line (which is quite impressive if you think about it).
The offense, offensive play calling, lack of a #1 wide receiver and mental mistakes are the 4 major issues with this team (D Line defensively too…).
Clean them up and you’ll see us competitive.
Problem is these are major items not minor that will take time to accomplish… but things can be turned around. Let’s give Spags some time… I know it’s hard because we’ve been saying that about our coach for the past 5 seasons.

Quote: "non-existent Defensive Line"
That pretty much sums up the defensive problem. Especially Chris Long aka “the invisvible man.” The offense, save SJax, is just completely non-existent.

When does it end
I have been a Ram fan since 1970, this is the worst team i have ever seen them put on the field. I think they should get rid of Barron and Incognito, play Null, we can’t do any worse with rookies playing. It is very disheartening to watch the same old stupid mistakes week after week. I believe Spags is the right man for the job, we just need different personnel.

Here's some wild ideas on how to change things quickly...
1. See if we can somehow get Mike Vick away from Philly.
2. Talk to the 49ers about trading us the rights to Michael Crabtree for draft picks.
3. John Fox is going to be fired at Carolina. Julius Peppers is unhappy there and wants out. Again talk draft picks all the way to 2012.
4. Give Barron his outright release to set an example. His lack of intensity and sloppiness may be the most cancerous part of the current team.
5. Trade Bulger for anything or any able body anyone will give up. Whether it’s his fault or not, he wreaks of failure and a waste of big $$$ to the team and fans.
6. With what draft picks remain, GET THE BEST AVAILABLE PLAYER AND TALENT and quit trying to fill a need. We have about 50 needs.
7. Fire Shurmur immediately, if not sooner. Then bring in Mike Martz to see what he could do with Vick, Jax, Crabtree, Avery, Burton, Smith, Brown, Bell, Incognito, Goldberg and Karney.

Where to start
1. Vick? Seriously? An inaccurate run first QB that has been in jail for almost 2 years. Do i need to say more?
2. After 30 days of the draft the only thing a drafting team can do with their draft pick is sign him. Drives me insane when people keep saying trade for his rights. NFL rules won’t allow it.
3. Don’t know if you wanna hire Fox for something or what. And Peppers is 29. Realisticly when we are good he probably won’t be.
4. Im ok with that one.
5. Bulger is an upgrade over Vick. If you wanna throw Null in there to get shell shocked just say so.
6. Every one is an expert on the draft but none of you seem to be employed by a NFL team. Curious to say the least.
7. You forget that Martz claims the Rams have some how made it so he can’t get a job. Not to mention he has been fired from his last few OC jobs. Yes he made some lemon aid out of some bad rosters, but from experience you shouldn’t hire a person who is continually fired from a job. There is always a reason.

Where to start???
1. Vick? Seriously? An inaccurate run first QB that has been in jail for almost 2 years. Do i need to say more? (Yes you do. Vick stomped Bulger and the Rams 48-17 in the 2005 divisional playoff. Vicks running and scrambling skills would complement SJax.)
2. After 30 days of the draft the only thing a drafting team can do with their draft pick is sign him. Drives me insane when people keep saying trade for his rights. NFL rules won’t allow it. (Are you a lawyer? The 49ers could’ve signed and traded Crabtree on the same day. But they finally realized they stold a great receiver in the draft and gave him a 6-year contract. Who could we have used more; Jason Smith of Crabtree?)
3. Don’t know if you wanna hire Fox for something or what. And Peppers is 29. Realisticly when we are good he probably won’t be. (Absolutely don’t want to hire Fox. But he’s in a desperate situation and would probably give up Peppers for draft picks. Btw. 29 is way young compared to Little and Hall. Adam Carriker will never be back and Chris Long is a bust.)
4. Im ok with that one.
5. Bulger is an upgrade over Vick. If you wanna throw Null in there to get shell shocked just say so. (Bulger is an upgrade over nobody. He never had great talent to start with – just great receivers. And now he’s 33 and has been permanently shellshocked and his shoulders and ribs are like hamburger. He be a non-playing backup somewhere else next season. Don’t we’ll get a 5th rounder for him.)
6. Every one is an expert on the draft but none of you seem to be employed by a NFL team. Curious to say the least. (Exactly which NFL team do you draft for? Certainly the Rams could’ve done better the last 5-6 years with a monkey and a dart board. Unless you think Alex Barron, Tye Hill, Joe Klop, Brian Leonard, Adam Carriker, Chrissy Long and Jason Smith were stellar picks?)
(The Rams offense has scored 6 points per game. I rather have a trained monkey calling plays than what we have now.)
I’m afraid you’re just another Bulger apologist willing to wait years and years to win a game. I am not. Being 5-31 over the last 3 seasons is plenty bad enough for me to try anything.
by edpjr on Oct 9, 2009 6:00 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not an apologist
Just don’t see a better option right now.
1. So 4 years ago Vick beat the crap out of us. Ok, but 4 years ago Bulger was a Playoff caliber QB. One who has been able to at least keep his skills honed as well as possible because he was in the NFL and not jail. Your argument falls apart on itself. Athletes don’t get better in their 30’s.
2.Not a lawyer just like to know what is possible and what is not. And I would like to build from the lines out. You can make a bad RB and QB look good with a good O line. I don’t care if you have Jerry Rice in his prime as your #1 WR if the QB has no time he wont do you any good.
3. Fox is not the GM. Even if he wanted to unload Peppers for draft picks its not really up to him. We don’t have the cap room anyway. And you maybe right on Long but it is a little early to declare him a bust.
5. Nobody? Do you want JaMarcus Russel? How about Jake Delhome? One of the Cleveland guys? And all accounts I have heard Vick’s progression of reads went like this ; primary reciever, Alge Crumpler, RUN. You think the passing attack is bad now?
6. I don’t draft for a NFL team because there are too many factors I am not trained or skilled enough to evaluate. Yes we had some bad drafts that is why our front office was changed. I don’t know if you remember that or not. Jason Smith, a bad pick? After 3 games?
7. Um we don’t have the personel to run a great offense.
You are willing to try anything? How about: fire Linehan, Zygmunt and all the people who put us in this bad situation; then hire a new front office and coaching staff; start rebuilding through the draft; and then give them more then 4 games before we start calling for drastic changes? Would you be willing to do that?

Fine, Fine...
It’s 5 games now – another blowout. Leave things as they are and we can just enjoy being 0-16. Hey, at least we’ll have the 1st overall draft pick to waste this time.

Progression
Yea game 5 was a blowout but only because of ball security issues. How was game 6. I know there are no moral victories in football but hey it seems that the O is starting to get on track. We wont go 0-16. There are winnable games on the schedule. And none of the moves you suggested would make us that much better to be a lock to win a game anyway. We all get upset when the rams loose but we are not a good team. Minor tweaks wont fix it. It is going to take more than that to get good.

Game 6?
Jax racked up 492 yards of offense, 33 1st downs, and double time of possession against us. We did manage 2X the penalty yards. The Jags tried every stupid trick in the world to give us our 1st win, and we still couldn’t pull it off. We’re 0-5 and we play for OT? Now we’re 0-6 and soon to be 0-7. We haven’t won a game in a full calendar year.

Yep
Fairly sure I wasn’t crying or whining about anything. You might be able to make a case for me making excuses though. Just a realist and know that we are a bad team that needs more than a few tweaks to be a winning team.
Not whining or crying are you?
“We’re 0-5 and we play for OT? Now we’re 0-6 and soon to be 0-7. We haven’t won a game in a full calendar year.”
“The Rams offense has scored 6 points per game. I rather have a trained monkey calling plays than what we have now.”

“The Jags tried every stupid trick in the world to give us our 1st win, and we still couldn’t pull it off.”
Sounds like whining and crying to me. Maybe you need a dictionary?
I can’t take anything you say personally. I know you are a total douche and you can’t help it.

Read what I wrote again, think, if you can, and address what's not true.
They are statements of fact. We went on to get blown out by the Colts (0-7), and through the miracle of Steve Jackson and a trick play we actually won at Detroit today and avoided 0-16. Now crawl back into your little hole and come out to make another inane comment next week. btw. I’m quite sure you drink from a douche bag…

Nice
Even if it is a statement of fact it has no baring on if it is crying and/or whining. Nice try though.
“Leave things as they are and we can just enjoy being 0-16. Hey, at least we’ll have the 1st overall draft pick to waste this time." Is not a statement of fact.
“The Rams offense has scored 6 points per game.”
Is no longer a statement of fact.
Win is a win is a win. Don’t care how we get it we did it. You can’t be happy with a win? From the looking at the site most people are happy about this one.
So my theory is this. You are either really old and have ED or don’t get laid anymore or you are middle aged and just don’t get laid. That is my only explanation for you being so angry about a football team. You do know this is supposed to be a hobby right?
Why am I crawling back in a hole? And when did I get this hole I am coming from. It seams I am missing out on something that could be awesome!!!
And you are welcome for adding douche to your vocabulary. Now you can sound like all the cool kids.

I'm 54, real old, and a Rams fan for over 40 years...
But you see, that’s my real pic. Years of radiation exposure have turned my skin green and rough textured and given me an attitude like Dick Cheney. However, it is time to rejoice and savor our 1st win of 2009. I personally thank SJax and whoever called the fake field-goal play for the victory. But, a lot of other players performed as sorry as usual. Enjoy your little burrow…

LOL
Never called you old. There were 2 parts to my theory. It kinda lets me know that only half of the information computes and then you over react to the point. Love the sarcasm though. And comedy is only funny if it has an element of truth to it Mr. Cheney.
Since you love hypotheticals so much what if Shurmur called the fake? Wouldn’t that chap your ass?
And if you are this upset about how the rams have been for the past few years how did you ever make it out of the 90’s without suicide?
Woot I have upgraded from a hole to a burrow. Nice. Can’t wait to see what i am coming out of or going into next time.
All joking aside I realize that you are a pasionate fan. I respect that. What I dont like is when a new regime takes the helm and is not given the chance to turn it around their way. They are all learning on the job. I’m sure what ever jobs you may have had you were not an expert the first day you started. I know people are angry about what has transpired but the new guys inherited a sinking ship. I think it would be foolish to not allow them do it their way before we start calling for changes.
Now I know this has gotten a little chippy. And it is my fault for implying you were crying/whining. We could end this and chalk it up to 2 pationate fans with strong opinions or we could go on forever. Your choice. For now happy 1-7

Hellooooooo overreaction
Gez, you guys sound like Lion fans on here. And if I were a Lion’s fan, I would be offended cause you don’t know what failure even is. Didn’t you guys win a Superbowl this decade? From an outsider’s perspective you really arent as poor as you say you are. I can see talent on your roster (unlike the Lions of last year) and your coach just started. Give him at least one season and then maybe (maybe) begin to question his skill.
But on the negative side, what the heck did you think would happen when you ousted your top WR and OL (Holt, Pace)?

Holt had lost a step and has wobbly knees...
Pace never fully recovered from his foolish holdout from training camp (and conditioning) that essentially cost him two years playing time with a torn bicep and then rotator cuff. I don’t think either man wanted to negotiate down his paycheck to be commensurate with his current skills. Thus, both got their release and signed with new teams. The Rams got nothing. Granted, Isaac Bruce, Tory Holt and Orlando Pace are still better than the guys that replaced them. And the Rams have a penchant for letting real talent leave the club, some more examples; Kurt Warner, Az-Hakim, Ricky Proehl, Kevin Curtis, Dre Bly, London Fletcher, Mike Jones, Grant Wistrom, Ryan Pickett, Brandon Chillar, Madison Hedgecock, etc.
