Turf Show Times: You Pick 'Em, week 8
Ladies and gentlemen, here are your winners from week 7 of TST's You Pick 'Em contest. Please get in touch with these folks before you place any kind of sports bets this weekend. Kidding...
I assigned a simple one point per correct pick, whether it was against the spread or straight up winner. The real killer last week was the Atlanta at Dallas game and Arizona at the NY Giants. And the winners for week 7 are:
Against the Spread
Ram_rod, 12 points
Winner
Rams4ever, 11 points
Congrats. Below the fold is the form for your week 8 picks. Good luck.

I sure hope this week is the one for the Rams...
Detroit really has nothing going for them except that they’re playing at home. And, the Rams don’t get alot of fan support at the Edward Jones Dome anyway. Even if we don’t win this week, it would help redeem the season if we could somehow knock off the 49ers or Sea Hawks in the second game this year.

Experiment on the Stat
I’m going to try a little experiment.
In another thread, I commented on how I was thought the most valuable stat to look at was a team’s Yards Allowed Per Play, Rushing (Season) .
Only rushing, per play not game, across their season. The theory is, very simply, that the per play number filters out extremes (and excuses).
This week I will pick every game by that one stat, we’ll see if its really capable of being the only stat you look at. As I remember, the saying always was “if you could only look at one”…
This is what it looks like:
4.3 stl @ det 4.6
4.7 hou @ buf 5.2
3.3 den @ bal 3.5
3.7 mia @ nyj 4.2
3.3 sf @ ind 4.3
4.9 cle @ chi 4.0
4.2 nyg @ phi 3.5
3.8 jac @ ten 3.4
4.6 oak @ sd 4.3
4.1 min @ gb 3.5
4.4 car @ az 3.0
4.6 atl @ no 4.0
4.3 sea @ dal 4.3 – tie
Let me know if I have something wrong there.
I only have access to a resolution a tenth of a yard (.1) from NFL.com, but even at that rough level the only tie this week is the last game, so I just threw that one to the home team.
I’m a little suspicious of the NYG being so relatively poor, but we’ll see how it shakes out.

No, I picked the team with the stat to win
That’s Philly with 3.5 to win over NYG’s 4.2.
I am assuming the stats on NFL.com are correct and following that right down the line. Wouldn’t be be a good experiment if I editorialized the stat. It stands on its own.

85% incorrect, 100% of the time.
When I got up this morning, and the Dart landed on the Giants & Eagles game, my left knee was swollen more than my right elbow. That means the Eagles will somehow score a late TD to win the game. BUT since I’m wrong 85% of the time, It will probable be Giants 27-Eagles 21
