College football Saturday open thread

Because it's never to late for St. Louis Rams fans to start thinking about the draft...

It's not a marquee day for college football, but there are some good games.

The teams aren’t amazing or anything but UW and ND is a close one.

Just got back from the bar

Some great football has been played today, and we’re seeing some movement among draft picks. Washington’s Jake Locker has to be considered a serious QB prospect. He and Jimmy Clausen could both be day 1 junior QBs (as in 1st or 2nd round). This second half of LSU-Georgia should be great. If LSU can close it out, next weekend features #1 Florida vs. #4 LSU. drooling

A couple notes
A.J. Green (So., WR – Georgia) is special. So is Patrick Peterson (So., CB – LSU).

And I’m increasingly worried about Brandon LaFell (Sr., WR – LSU). He’s taken a backseat to Terrance Toliver all season.

BTW

ESPN’s Todd McShay posted his new board (Insider only) yesterday and bumped Sam Bradford (QB, Oklahoma) down to #2 in favor of Carlos Dunlap (DE, Florida). I think I’ve dropped his name before…

Rueben Randle sighting

Just name dropping. Randle will be an absolute stud. If LSU can run the ball in 2010, they’re set up for a serious championship run.

I'd like to take Dunlap

I think there will be 3-4 QBs that I like this draft. Bradford, Locker, Jerrod Johnson if he comes out, or Tony Pike.

Hell of a game between LSU and Georgia

weird, though, how the WRs stand out versus any other position.

Just got back from the NIU/WMU game.

(for the non-mid-major fans out there….that’s Northern Illinois/ Western Michigan)

I was cold, kinda rainy at times and windy, but it was also Homecoming! so I didn’t give a shit about the weather. NIU totally dominated winning the game 38-3. It was obvious WMU was not prepared to play in Northern Illinois weather (even if we were getting early November weather in early October). Great time!

How did Tim Hiller look?

Right now I’m guessing he goes 4th round, but I’d love to hear what observers see live.

He was really affected by the weather.

18 of 35, 176 yards, 3 INT (1 returned for TD….it was blocked at the line and caught by DE Jake Coffman who returned it like 79 yards for the touch) and a fumble (on the snap). I don’t remember exactly, but he had 3 or 4 passes blocked at the line, which with Hiller’s size is rather surprising.

I guess they abandoned the run (although I don’t think WMU runs it that much in the first place) because they got behind kinda big rather quickly. When he had time, he made some pretty nice passes. He’s got some receivers that can get it too. But overall, I wasn’t too impressed. The weather was poor, but it wasn’t horrible, I’ve seen it much much worse in DeKalb, but he seemed to not handle it well at all. NIU doesn’t exactly have a great defense. We got shredded by Idaho last weekend at home (classic trap game. Idaho was sandwiched between the “upset” at Purdue and the Homecoming game and Conference opener against WMU). Nevertheless, NIU couldn’t tackle Idaho to save their lives. NIU did get a couple of good defensive players back this week from injury (most notably, the aforementioned Jake Coffman) so it wasn’t the exact same defense that played Idaho.

Nevertheless, WMU became rather predictable and Hiller didn’t handle it well, IMO.

(NIU out-rushed WMU 255 to 73 and out-possessed WMU 37 minutes to 23 minutes) \

Here’s the write-up by Mike over at Red and Black Attack.
