Random Ramsdom: Oct. 26th, 2009
Now, for that Monday feeling we all know and love. While your starting you're week with the Rams latest defeat fresh in your minds, take a look at some of the stories for today:
- As always, Bill Coats has his report card up for the Indy game. The highest grade was a B (going to running backs).
- Bill also has a story about Clifton Ryan being helped by veteran presences all around. There won't be too much more of that after this year...
- Sando has his wrap-up of the game. This jumped out at me:
The fact that newly acquired receiver Brandon Gibson wasn't a factor -- he was inactive, even though the team expected contributions right away.
How can you be expected to contribute when your inactive?
- Jake Locker was 23 for 44, with 1 TD and 2 INT (including 4 sacks)- in case you missed it. He's the #1 QB prospect?
Enjoy your Monday everyone.

I think Sando
was surprised Gibson was inactive.
Personally, I think Spags was giving the guys who were currently on the roster a vote of confidence since (in his words) those guys all stepped it up in practice.
Well….I expect to see Gibson lined up against the Lions on Sunday.

As do I...
…that’s got to be the worst performance by the receiving corps this year. Did Tim Burton drop 2 or 3 balls? I’m not sure.
I PRAY Gibson is decent, and that the only reason he didn’t start was because he doesn’t quite know ALL the intricacies of our “Offense.” I would almost want a game where we hand it to Steven all day long no matter what. It might be more productive since our guys are much better at run blocking than pass protection.
Also, they need to leave J. Smith in at LT so he can take his lumps already. Yeah, Freeney schooled him, but it has to happen before the guy gets better. Put Barron back at RT and see what happens. This is how it should have been from the start. Also, I wouldn’t mind Greco starting at LG over Bell one of these days to see what he has, although Bell had a couple of nice blocks today. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope Incognito’s injury wasn’t bad. He has been SOLID since the Seattle game. We have to give him props when they’re deserved.
Once Ruvell Martin is healthy (if ever), do you guys think Carter will be cut? I still rue the day we cut Ronald Curry…:(

what the hell?
I meant Tim Carter. It’s too early in the morning for me. Then again, it’s probably because Burton’s failed route running is still fresh in my memory. Attack the ball dammit!

Lmao...
…I knew that would happen. Although I wouldn’t mind plugging Edward Scissorhands in there. We can’t do much worse right?

i'm still confused about the rams receivers to be honest
in a perfect world, i think they should go like this, with the guys we have:
donnie avery
keenan burton
danny amendola
brandon gibson
ruvell martin
switch the latter three any way you feel like. so yes, i think carter will be cut once martin can actually get his ass into a game.

Keenan Burton.
Unfortunately Keenan (Don’t Call Me Tim) Burton has been playing himself into a sort of middle ground. He makes a good play and then on the next snap, he runs the wrong route.
Keenan should, as of right now, be the number 2. However, once Gibson or Martin gets on the field (more likely Gibson) then he could start to see his position drop. And it won’t be to number 3 because Amendola has a pretty firm grip on that slot.
Personally, I think Amendola is, right now, better than Burton. But that doesn’t make Amendola a number 2. If he’s your number 2, then you have issues and right now (since he is kinda our number 2….sometimes number 1), we have issues.

i hope that gibson can jump in and be a reliable #2 guy for the rest of the year
amendola is better than burton right now, but like you said, he’s firmly supplanted in the #3 spot. if gibson or martin show promise, burton could easily fall back to the spot carter occupies now. and in honesty, i don’t seem to have a problem with that.

Greco
Is a regular DNP that surprises me. I have to take that to mean he really isn’t playing well or isn’t working hard, or both, because the Rams don’t have luxurious depth on the O-line. I thought he was going to round out to be one of the better back-ups on the left side but apparently the coaches don’t think so.
Lived in LA during the Rams and Raiders days. Now based in NorCal, I am still a die hard Rams fan and Raiders season ticket holder.
