Seven teams invited to love LA?
With the Los Angeles area football stadium's hurdles officially cleared today, let the speculation begin. Option27 had this fan post about the LA stadium deal earlier today, and there's already discussion of whether or not the St. Louis Rams could be moving.
Be sure to check it out. Among the seven teams the stadium developers will ask are the 49ers, Chargers and Raiders.
Weigh in.

Go LA RAMS!!!
Joke. It highly unlikely. I’ll love the Rams no matter where they are. You guys should too.

Please explain why it's "highly unlikely"?
by Option27 on Oct 22, 2009 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’d think the chargers would be a likely candidate.
From what I’ve heard Qualcomm stadium is a POS…and a San Diego to LA move is less aggravating then moving a team across a country (and leaving a market, for that matter).
Oakland could be a possibility too.
I believe in 2010

Oh God...
…please not the Raiders. I would literally have to move.

Hey man, I'm from LA...
…I’d love this to happen. I just don’t think it’s gonna happen given all the promises they’ve made St. Louis. Unless they’re liars, which wouldn’t make me feel good about my team. I don’t care where they are, I love them regardless.

There is just no possible way the Dome can make the improvement needed in order for them to stay
It’s the most unlikely story there.
With that said, they’re coming back

So, they're just going to sit on that brand new stadium
with no one playing in it for about 4 years?
Highly unlikely.

2 points
1) Who said it was going to be finished in one year? That would highly be unlikely
2) Who said no one would be playing in it? Just cause an NFL team isn’t here by then doesn’t mean they’ll just leave it empty.
What happens when UCLA season is done? Does the Rose Bowl just call it quits? Same with every other stadium. Trust me, with a stadium that gorgeous, you would see tons of things happening there. Races, shows and games etc

Rams
I’ve been to a couple games in St. Louis. I don’t like the Stadium. With the Heirs selling the team anything can happen. Is a possible move afoot after sale. I’d say theres a 50-50 chance. If money is offered for a move like Maryland did for the Browns before they were the Ravens. $50 million just to move plus all the perks is hard to turn down.
Want your team to stay? Pray. It’s a shame because I think St. Louis is a pretty cool town. Love the new Busch Stadium.

I’m from and in the LA area, and I would love to have any team EXCEPT, the Raiders or forty-whiners

Really though
The Jags or the Bills make more sense. Maybe not from a “moving across the country” standpoint, but the teams haven’t been that great, and the markets are small. A change of locale could be a boost that gets them over the hump. I guess then, the NFL would have to decide whether to change up the divisions a little bit. Are there any rules for that?
THIS year's the year. I hope....

I bet it's either the Jags or the Chargers.
The Vikings will make a bunch of noise, but I don’t see them leaving Minny. And they’ll use the Twins new stadium to lobby for a new stadium of their own.

Charger's
The Spano family has spent 7 frustrating years and approximately $10M in pocket change trying to find a place in San Diego County to build a new stadium for their football team. It appears they have been thwarted every inch of the way by the environmentalists and the local politicians so at some point, you’d think the Spano’s would throw up their hands and say, “enough is enough.” Sure, they’d like to stay in San Diego but the NFL is about big business, income streams, etc…it’s always about, ‘show me the money.’
Besides, the Charger’s played ball in Los Angeles in the 1960’s. They still have some fans there who still travel down the old 5 frwy to watch home games. C’mon Alex, bring the boy’s home.

I think the Horns will be coming back home to LA...
They’re gonna have a new owner, and who wouldn’t want to be in that gigantic LA market? They did great a few years in STL, but since they turned to crap the EJ Dome is often filled with local opponents fans versus the hometown folks. Can’t say I blame ‘em. Who wants to go pay to sit and watch a team that’s a laughing stock? 5-38 the last three seasons…
by edpjr on Oct 22, 2009 7:40 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
because the team is going to be so much better just because they move to la....
think before you post. fans in la won’t want to watch crap football either.
with that being said, you guys all still don’t understand that the rams are tied down to the dome long after la will get their team. and on top of that, rosenbloom is only going to sell to someone who wants to keep the team in st. louis, he has said that all along, and i’m inclined to believe him.

Just to back up edpjr
The Rams did do that when they left LA to St Louis, didn’t they?
A horrible decade of football. Team moves. Few years later . . . Super Bowl? I’m not saying it’s gonna happen but I wouldn’t bash the guy for his opinion

uummm, I hate to burst your bubble worse then your cards did, but us angelenos would go watch a crappy Rams team due to how NFL starved we are.Yes we have the mighty Trojans but as everyone knows they are only NCAA, even though they would probably beat the Rams right now,lol
by peteyweestro on Oct 23, 2009 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
i'm sure you would go watch a crappy team play football
just like the st. louis fans are doing right now. so why move?
by stlcardinalsfang on Oct 24, 2009 4:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
L.A RAMS was my team then and for ever no mater where they play or move too
but i herd they moving to Boston lmao

Who? The Rams?
From where?
Nevermind…it doesn’t matter because it would never happen for many reasons.

At this point...
I’d bet on either the Jaguars or (to a lesser extent) Chargers.
A move of the Jags would be less sacrificial as the fan base is non-existent in that town. On top of that, LA could easily rename the franchise to something more genuine, local, and create new uniforms/new tradition. Of course, I’m aware that, as a Laker fan, that’s not usually the California way.
If the Jags move, I’m liking the idea of the LA Dons or of course the Chargers move would naturally be an easy choice as the team technically started in Los Angeles. I wouldn’t rule out the Rams moving back, however. Nothing is sacred in the NFL.
Any idiot would know that.

There are a couple of teams to consider...
With new ownership, the likelihood of moving certainly increases. Given that the Rams were once in LA, they seem to be the most likely candidate. The catch here is that the Rams actually have a fairly solid fanbase in StL and that might discourage a move.
San Diego would be the next most likely since it’s a relatively short distance and Qualcom is probably the worst stadium in the league. Fan base is only so-so and many of them are in LA anyhow.
Niners are possible since they have been rumored before, but there is a long tradition of football in San Francisco. Same with Oaklands rabid fan base.
The Jags, as mentioned, have no fans. However, a move all accross the country creates logistical problems since they play in the AFC South. I wouldn’t be shocked if they move, but probably not to LA. If the Rams do leave, you may very well end up with the St. Louis Jaguars.

Interesting.
I never quite thought of it that way. And how interesting would that be since St. Louis should have gotten the Jags in the first place.
Wasn’t the name supposed to be the St. Louis Stallions?

by Tackle Box on Oct 23, 2009 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I had forgotten about that.
I don’t know who decided to put that franchise in Jacksonville instead of St. Louis, but that was clearly a mistake. Pure speculation on my part as I’m not sure if the Jags are actually looking to move, but some of the pieces do seem to fit.
by invisibulman on Oct 23, 2009 6:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
There was some pissy hissy fit over the St. Louis ownership group
and some instability or some other thing that was blown out of proportion. Not only did the NFL snub StL with the Jaguars but (don’t forget) two teams were added that year and the other team went to Carolina. Although I’m not 100% which team was awarded first.
So, I think it actually peeved off Tagliabue when the Rams moved to St. Louis. But, that was a long time ago and Roger Goodell has bigger issues on his hands like defending himself against the all powerful.
C’MON GOODELL!!!!!!

Lets go rams
SI thinks the rams would be the next team to go to LA out of the 7. To me I don’t care were the rams play.

Rams
Lets bring the Rams home. Let them be the LA Rams again….LA Rams sounds so much better than the St.Louis Rams…
Just my opinion.

Hmmm
The LA Chargers, LA Raiders, or anyone eles does not sound right.
The LA Rams should be the first choice….
