Ron Bartell vs Fletcher

The odd thing about the game against JAX is that all day they passed against Bartell.  The only time you knew Fletcher was on the field was when they ran to the right.  Let me see if I have this right.  We have a rookie CB on the one side and JAX spends all day testing CB Bartell, the veteran.  This does not speak highly of Bartells skills.  The truth is in plain sight.  Bartell is the weak link.  I hadn't really looked at his play before now.

so wrong

bartell is good. he is a top ten corner in this league. bartell was lined up with holt the entire game and its customary for cut players to return strong against their old teams. Shockey and gmen. favre and green bay. the defense as a whole played a bad game but managed to get a few good turnovers. by this post atogwe is a bad player too cuz they tested him for few throws. and Atogwe is one of the best safeties in the league. our defense is bad but those 2 are good.

There's no disputing the play on the field this week

Bartell was targeted on the first two completions of the day, both going to Torry Holt. He has been hobbled in the last couple of weeks, and seems to be targeted more often than he was, particularly last year when we had Tye Hill flanking him.

That said, Bartell is a physical tackler and a solid player. He may be a weak link right now, but that’s not a reason to overreact and put the goat horns on him for the season.

bartell

Bartell has been a little disappointing so far this season in my opinion. I know he has been playing hurt, so I’m not that worried, but it still does concern me a little that he isn’t playing up to his big contract (7 mil a season. Darrelle Revis gets 5 mil a season)

The Rams need Bartell to start playing like he did last year so that the D can send more guys at the QB

I agree.

Bartell was really good last year, but teams are targeting him this year. I hope it’s just the injury and not a bad attitude now that he has the big contract, but he needs to shake it off and get back to the level of last year in his performance. He’s getting paid to be a real stopper, and it isn’t happening so far.

Interception

Also, bartell really should have had that pick
hit him right in the hands

Bartell frustrates me.

He’s definitely talented, but he’ll often do things that just make me wonder what he’s thinking.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Patterns of Behavior

Repeatedly targeting a DB is just as telling as not running behind a particular O-Lineman. It’s like they say every stereotype has a kernal of truth to it, so too are these patterns of behavior. Either they think he’s wounded or they think he’s the lesser of the CB’s, but whatever the case you can bet if it’s a multigame trend it will continue until he makes someone pay for it.

Lived in LA during the Rams and Raiders days. Now based in NorCal, I am still a die hard Rams fan and Raiders season ticket holder.

targeting bartell

i dont think offenses are necessarily targeting bartell as much as trying to avoid atogwe. Atogwe tends to line up on the other side of the field. I know green bay tested bartell and dahl the whole game and the jags continued the trend.

in other words

teams dont see bartell as enough of a threat to change their game plan
all they have to do is keep on eye on atogwe/send decoys at him to hold him on his side of the field

didnt we get atogwe and bartell in the same draft?

If so, thats a really good draft right there. Im gonna look it up now

Yea Bartell 2nd Round

OJ 3rd

Reserved-- been waiting 6 weeks to have this sig, I guess I can wait 1 more

by Carneros on Oct 20, 2009 6:46 PM CDT up reply actions

i see that our first 4 picks are now starters

Barron, Bartell, Otogwe and Incognito. If you can get 4 starters in one draft, thats a hell of a draft

Appearances vs Reality

<>

This makes sense. If you have a rookie cornerback, you give him the major help (Atogwe)and make them not want to throw to that side. This is also how you develope a rookie. You give him the help he needs untill he gets his feet on the ground. Otherwise, he gets bombed on his first few games, loses confidence and is a psycological casuality. The Rams are backing up their promising rookie until he can go it alone. They pay a price for this of course…Bartell is being tested severly and is having to hold on without a normal amount of help from the safety position.

It’s funny how appearances can be so far from reality.

also...

the receivers that have burned Bartell so far (Jennings, Holt, did Driver burn him too?) are far more talented at WR than Bartell is at CB I would say. I dont know that this is a matter of teams intentionally targeting Bartell. I think that the receivers are just plain beating Bartell in coverage and the QB is throwing to the open guy/#1 receiver on the team.

hopefully having Butler back will help Bartell

one other thing...

Sure, but the recievers running into Fletchers area are just going to tend to be less open. What with Atogwe Staying home there to help out.. It’s like that old saying, “Offenses take what the defense offers them” (Except with the old Oakland Raiders who would tell anyone: “We take what we want!”)
