All is not so gloomy...

Hello Rams fans! As you can tell by my name, I'm a Miami Dolphins fan who lives in Buffalo (the surrounding area not the city itself). I'm pretty sure you all have acknowledged that your season so far this year hasn't exactly been the best, but I'm here to point out some things that make it not as gloomy as it may seem. I won't mention Rush Limbaugh because there is nothing positive that I can say about him so I'll put that aside and talk football, not football ownership.  I'll start of by saying that just two years ago my team went 1-15, winning the last game of the season to avoid the infamy of becoming the first 0-16 team, as we all know that was left to last year's Detroit Lions. So I know how it feels to have a poor season and I know how it feels to stick with my team regardless of what happens, and I'm sure you guys feel the same way. But on to some not so gloomy points.

0-5 Teams: So far this year there are 4 0-5 teams, so you guys aren't alone. Other than the Rams there are the Titans, Buccaneers, and Chiefs. As we all know the Titans went 13-3 last year with a start of 10-0. If anything you guys should be happy that your team wasn't the top ranked team in the AFC that is currently tied for the worst team in the AFC (yes I know the Rams are in the NFC). Furthermore there are teams that are currently not 0-5 but should be, for example: The Browns, Panthers, Raiders, and one could even say the Lions.

Total Offense: Based on yards per game your team is ranked 28th out of 32. The point that is the most astonishing is that the two teams below yours, the Raiders and Browns, have at least one win and the 49ers have 3 wins. Regardless of the fact your team has yet to win, you still are showing slightly more of a spark on offense than some teams with wins. The last point proves that your team is due a win sometime soon, and I'm smelling a possible win on November 1st.

Total Defense: Based on yards allowed per game your team ranks 23rd out of 32. Teams that fall below your team are the Titans, Chargers, Cardinals, Bucs, Browns, Jags, Raiders and Chiefs. Again this shows that your team has some bright spots going for them.

Rushing: The Rams are ranked 12th of 32. Not too shabby if you look at some of the teams ranked below yours.

Passing: The Rams are ranked 27th of 32 just coming in one spot above my Miami Dolphins. This is showing that your team, like mine, is being more productive as a rush team then they are as a passing team. This could proved to be a good thing for the future.

I could sit here and go through all the stats but I'll save you guys the reading and make the point I wanted to in the first place. Your team is most likely not going to make the playoffs this year, but the thing to look forward to is that as your team builds. Sure last year wasn't good and the year before that wasn't either but in the future I can see the Rams start to produce. The loss to the Vikings last week wasn't the best thing that could happen but remember your franchise has a Super Bowl and the Vikings sure never have got that far. There are a lot of teams that haven't achieved that, so be proud of that and look for the future. I'll be watching the Rams and pulling for your team to start producing like I think it can. I always root for the underdog so in that sense: Go Rams!

and i approve of this fanpost!

but seriously, i completely agree. too many people in the nfl (and on the wwl, and seems like most people on the board sometimes even) look at the final scores of these games and just think “oh, just another game for those sorry ass rams,” well that’s simply not the case. the defense is getting better every week, bulger is coming back this week, the receivers are getting MUCH better, and even both lines are finally coming together as a unit. if the rams can just cut the self destructive mistakes that are so frustrating, they’ll be much better.

by stlcardinalsfang on Oct 14, 2009 1:00 PM CDT reply actions

yeah. that is a good way to look at it.

A lot of people are pinning the Rams as the worst team in the NFL but I’m not seeing it like that. I think the Redskins are worse off and they have two wins. The record isn’t what represents a team.

The Rams should have a win over the skins this year as it is, but yes as bad as the Rams look and as much crap as us long time fans talk about them and the fact that we let our frustrations out in these blogs sometimes doesn’t belittle the fact that the Rams “D” in my opinion is truly a bright spot in a season of lows.To be ranked 23rd in the league with zero offense to help the D out is pretty freakin good, so imagine if the “O” was half assed good our D could realistically be top 15 and skyrocketing to even better years ahead.Remember even when they were known as " the greatest show on turf" it was all about the offense because they had no defense, they out scored everybody thank god because they sure didn’t stop no one, but now we can finally start to say that we are building a team correctly, you start with a wicked defense and the offense comes around and WHAM, you got a superbowl win with multi win seasons and playoffs every year for a long while, and all of us Rams fans really deserve a great team after all these years

I’m pulling for you guys to really turn this one around.

good post dolphin

I really agree with your statement and you had evidence to prove it. I’ll be pulling for the dolphins as well, as long as they don’t play the rams haha

by keeperskillz24 on Oct 14, 2009 8:38 PM CDT reply actions

haha yeah same goes for if the Dolphins play the Rams, then I might have to root for the Dolphins that game.

Thanks for commenting, I just want to get the message across that I don’t think you guys are the worst team in the league and that I think you guys have some potential, and you have my respect.

Thanks for the post...

it means a lot to hear those comments from a non-Rams fan so to speak.

I have a friend in Rochester who is a huge Phins fan… has a Tatoo on his leg as a matter of fact!

Is your name Tommy?? :-)

Yeah, we definitely understand the feeling when your team is doing really badly.

I live just outside St. Louis, so I always get the Rams games on TV. I’ll usually watch them play unless the Phins are being televised. In all honesty, I truly believe that the Rams are just a few key players away from being a good and contending team. The hard part is getting those key players.

Like Miami right now, you guys are having some problems at WR. You don’t really have any clear cut #1 receiver, and you got a lot of guys hurt right now. I dunno what’s going on with Donnie Avery, although he did start to look a little more like his rookie year last week against Minnesota. Robinson looked promising, but he’s done for the year. Amendola has shown some good stuff so far and could be a good addition. He comes across to me as a Wes Welker slot type of guy.

One thing that I have noticed this year, the defense seems to be playing better. Every week they seem to be making improvements and becoming a better unit. Not a whole lot, but little by little, I can see the improvement. I think that you guys got yourself a potential future stud in Laurinaitis if he keeps playing as well as he has.

I keep rooting for them to win, and I’ll be rooting for them at the Colts, Saints, and Cardinals games this year from the nosebleed seats in the Dome.

Yeah, I try to go to at least one game a year.

This year, they happened to have a 3 pack of tickets for the Colts, Saints, and 1 other of our choice. Me and the wife wanted to see the Colts and Arizona, and the Saints weren’t a bad 3rd game, so we picked them up. I was at the Phins/Rams game last year, which was awesome for me, and the Cowboys/Rams game as well, not as awesome for my wife, who’s a huge Dallas fan.

You should have heard how nuts the place went when they beat the Cowboys.

You need to convert your wife to a Fins Fan. I really hope that the Rams beat all the teams you are going to see, but mostly the Colts.

hey!

what do you got against the Colts?
;)

The way our defense is set up, it puts me in situations where I'm one-on-one in making tackles on running backs. When I go into it, I think I am going to win. It really doesn't matter the size, height, weight, whatever. I'm not afraid of putting my body in there." - Bob Sanders

LOL, when he said a huge Phin fan with a Phins tattoo on his leg

My first immediate thought was of Ohio, LOL. I just remember that pic he has for his avatar of his Dolphins logo tattoo on his calf.

Nah, just a guy who posts over on the Phinsider.

He’s a huge Phins fan too, and he has a tattoo of the Dolphins logo on his leg. Just an odd coincidence is all.

I'm not good at accepting pity from fans of other teams.

Our team sux in every facet of the game. They don’t need pity or molly-coddling or any other comfort to make them feel better about their horrendous unprofessional play. What they need is a Vince Lombardi or Bill Parcells type to come in and start kicking posteriors of players and coaches. I can’t stand Bill Belichick, but I agree completely with what he said about losing; “I’m not a good one.”

by edpjr on Oct 17, 2009 5:41 PM CDT reply actions

Well I find a difference between pity and sympathy.

I didn’t hop on over to the Titans blog, nor any other team in the same position as yours. The whole point of my post was to point out that everything isn’t as bad as it looks for your team, hence the title.

lol yeah it was a poor whole 2nd half

I was pulling for you guys to beat the Colts because I don’t like seeing teams go undefeated but it didn’t go my way. I’m really hoping you guys pull out a win here soon because people are comparing your team to the Titans and they are by far, far worse. Good luck the rest of the season, I’m continuing to keep an eye on your team.
