Rams approval ratings: Head coach Steve Spagnuolo

I hate to do this to the guy with the St. Louis Rams sitting at 0-5, but I think it's as good a time as any to gauge the pulse of the nation. Here's the official, quarter plus season fan approval rating poll for head coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Before the season started, fans gave Spags an astounding 93% approval rating.

I won't really add any comment above the fold here, but weigh in below with your thoughts on how Spagnuolo is doing thus far. Does he have a future with the Rams? Do the Rams have a future with him?

Everyone has heard the quote, and it is very applicable: “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

Although, Rome would one day have his nose broken.

Not so fast....

This got me to thinking and I remembered espn.com has a section on their SportsNation page that tracks NFL Coach Approval Levels.

Currently, Spags ranks 21st in the League with a 32% Approval Rating. Now, there are only 366 people who have voted this week (and his Rating rose 7 points from the previous week) so it ins’t exactly a reliable sample size, but I found it interesting to be so different from our pole and it makes me much happier to be a member of this community.

Who are the Coaches who rank below our beloved Spags?

(btw, there is only “yes” or “no” options….“no opinion” doesn’t exist in this poll)

Jeff Fisher 33%
John Fox 29%
Eric Mangini 28% (and I have no idea why Cleveland hired this schmuck in the first place)
Jack Del Rio 24%
Norv Turner 15%
Raheem Morris 14%
Wade Phillips 13%
Jim Zorn 12%
Tom Cable 9%
Dick Jauron 3% (THREE PERCENT!?!?!?!!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT!)

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Mangini is getting one of the most unfair shafts I've ever seen

I know he’s getting panned pretty heavily, but look at what he built in New York (minus Bart Scott and Mark Sanchez). He just helped usher a trade to dump Braylon Edwards who was mailing it in worse than Alex Barron. I hope he gets 3 years to mold that team; I’m rooting for him, especially as long as he doesn’t play us.

The players hate him

He makes Tom Coughlin look like Santa Claus. He may be a football genius (mangenius), but if the players hate you, that’s all that matters.

An odd story I heard a while back was about him fining a player who didn’t pay for a bottled water taken from the hotel room refrigerator. Instead of either having the team or the player cover the cost of the water, Mangini decided to fine the player $1,500.

I’m sure he made his point, but you aren’t going win any fans in the locker room doing that shit.

I heard that story too

But in his first year, don’t you think those things will be water under the bridge once he gets things turned around? And moreover, if he does get stuff turned around, don’t you think that will be the meme that develops? A la “Mangini’s dictatorial approach turns Browns into playoff contenders”?

Your uncle molests collies.

You just said he built a contender in New York

yet that wasn’t enough to keep his job.

From what I’ve heard, he’s the type of guy who looks good on paper, but once you get him, you can’t stand him.

Well...

his rating dropped 11 points after the Green Bay game, which was a debacle.

His ratings per week are:

Week 1: 50%
Week 2: 57%
Week 3: 41%
Week 4: 30%
Week 5: 38%

It probably started out a little low, but I’d say the fluctuation from week to week is probably pretty appropriate.

Btw, I meant the 49ers game....not the Packers game.

THE RAMS AND THEIR COACH.

I had the displeasure of watching the 49ers play Football while the RAMS weren’t playing. I don’t know who is calling the plays, but they are doing a lousy job with their play selection. The Defense is getting killed because they have no offense.

I'd answer that question(?) if I could make heads or tails out of it.

Good thing we aren’t graded around here based on ease of comprehension.

Not to worry
