Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Sunday Morning Pundit-back

We'll start with the Post-Dispatch quartet (alphabetically, so as to show no bias):

  • Bryan Burwell praises both Spagnuolo and Devaney, and by extension, (wait for it) actually praises (gulp) the Rams.  "I don't want to say I never saw this coming, because I did see this coming. I think we all saw this coming — in our wildest dreams."
  • Bill Coats talks to Chris Draft, James Hall, Dane Looker, Clifton Ryan and Will Witherspoon.  They hate the hire.  Just kidding.  "'Having a guy that's got some swagger makes a big difference, a guy who can really get guys motivated,' Witherspoon said. 'That's going to be a big key.'"
  • Bernie Miklasz gives some praise to the man who has engineered this first chapter of the turnaround: Owner Chip Rosenbloom.  "When Rosenbloom took over the franchise after the death of his mother, Georgia Frontiere, he promised to do everything he could to make the Rams a winner. The young owner is living up to his word."  He also drops his five reasons why hiring Spagnuolo was the right move.
  • Jim Thomas wraps the whole saga up.  Most interesting?  "Sources said Rosenbloom actually liked Frazier a little better, but was very impressed with Spagnuolo. And all along, Rosenbloom said this was Devaney's job search and that he would honor Devaney's recommendation as long as it was reasonable."
  • Jeff "Gordo" Gordon, stltoday.com, discusses the Spagnuolo mind and how it fits with the Rams' rebuilding needs.  "Change must start with the defense, where big investments on high draft picks Tye Hill, Adam Carriker and Chris Long haven’t paid the proper dividends."
  • Lastly (but not, uh, leastly?) is Steve Korte over at Ramblings from the Belleville News Democrat, where he pushes the focus where it needs to be: moving on from here to more success.  "The Rams didn’t outthink themselves, and they didn’t go cheap in their search for a new coach. Let’s hope they use the same kind of judgment with their other decisions, especially the reshaping of their roster, this offseason."
