haslett and this schedule
hi all,
my first post on TST, glad to find a respectable rams blog. first off, i think jim haslett has a chance to make this a strong and much more aggressive team. really liked some of the lines from the press conference about the team needing to find a swagger/cutting down the playbook to make things more energetic. plus maybe we've found the next belichik/dungy in his second head coaching job. fingers crossed.
my biggest question though, and i'm sure this has been talked about before...IS THIS THE SCHEDULE EVERY 3-13, SECOND WORST NFL TEAM HAS ALWAYS HAD TO PLAY? these outside of the nfc west games are unbelievable. both super bowl teams, almost every nfc team worth a damn, and a few other strong opponents (jets, possibly dolphins, etc). logic tells me we're just playing the east teams but how is that fair? is that how the scheduling is determined now? i could be out of the loop, but i thought previous season record was at least considered.
thanks all and here's to the new and improved jim haslett era.

Welcome aboard
As far as the schedule, the way they go about it is different then it was a while back. I remember when it used to be based on your finish within your division, where 4th place team from this division played 4th place teams from other divisions. I think that might be what your thinking of.
Now it’s different. Now, it breaks down like this.
Since there are 4 teams in each division…..
-Each team plays the other 3 teams in their division twice home and away (6 games).
-Each division plays a whole division within their conference on a rotating schedule year to year. This year is the NFC East (4 games).
-Each division plays a whole division from the other conference on a rotating schedule year to year. This year its the AFC East (4 games).
-That leaves two games to be determined by placement last year like it used to be back then.
So……
Seattle x2, San Francisco x2, Arizona x2 = 6 games
New York Giants, Philadelphia, Washington, Dallas = 10 games
New York Jets, Miami, Buffalo, New England = 14 games
Two last place teams (Chicago, Atlanta) = 16 games.
I guess it’s easier to do with 8 divisions of 4 teams or something. It can hurt bad teams and help good teams (I think Chicago had a really easy schedule the year they were really good. I think they played the NFC West that year).
Hope that clears things up a little.
Nothin'. A handful of nothin'. You stupid mullet head. He beat you with nothin'. Just like today when he kept comin' back at me......with nothin'.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

great answer and explanation, albeit a disappointing situation since we got such a tough draw. ugh. oh well, if we beat dallas the whole year is a success :-D
