Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The k is back... (w/ poll)

Before last season, I wrote a couple preview diaries looking at how our defense would match up against each opponent.  I wrote them while I was in Iraq and for the latter part of my deployment, I was just too damn busy to finish them.  I didn't get back until the very end of the year (and the season), so my motivation to discuss on this site the Rams' downward spiral was as low as it could have gotten.
Now, looking forward, this Soldier has a renewed optimism and with the draft on the horizon, it is my privelge, nay, my duty to bring 3k back to his good standing in the Turf Show Times community.

Star-divide

Obviously, the draft is weighing heavily on everyone's minds.  I won't go to deep into it as we seem to have it covered as a blog and everybody has voiced their opinions one way or another.  That being said, I don't think it would be very constructive to add my opinion here; in other words, trade down.

With a weak free agent market, I give our moves a B+.  Jacob Bell adds solid depth to our O-Line and seems to have good durability.  Josh Brown is a great pickup.  A solid kicker who has proved he can boot from 50+ in Seattle's climate.  I would love to see him put one in from 55 to beat the Seahawks.  If Anthony Becht puts a couple blocks upfield for Steven Jackson, great.  Trent Green gives us a quality backup for Bulger for 3 more years.  Gorin & Goldberg provide even more depth for the O-Line.

That's about it for me.  Just wanted to see if anyone had anything to discuss.

Random question:  If we traded the #2 pick to the Jets (at pick #6), we could still probably pick up Gholston.  Would Nick Mangold be sufficient or should we press for more?  I've seen him in 3 games and he looks like a future perennial Pro-Bowl candidate.  He's only 24 & he would fill our center need for as long as we could keep him.  ESPNInsider scouts him closing with, "Mangold is smart, instinctive, tough and rarely struggled in the middle of the offensive line where all the action begins. He should only get better with added bulk and experience."

Word.

welcome back 3k!
i can see where 3-13 wasn't exactly a morale booster.

I really like the Bell signing, but I maybe would have liked to see them get competitive for one of the cornerbacks available through FA.

The Mangold trade is an interesting option, and I could certainly live with the #6 pick. However, lots of people just don't think Gholston would be available at that point anymore. Doesn't mean they can't still get other help for the D, Sedrick Ellis or the top CB in the draft would be there at #6.

My good buddies who like disgusting teams (to me they are all disgusting except for the Rams), say you are dreaming if you think that if available, even the Jets would not take Gholston #1.

But I like your idea. What the hell, who knows which of these men will produce best!?

Gholston is very hot right now.
